A camshaft phaser, including: a stator arranged to receive rotational torque, including a plurality of radially inwardly extending protrusions, and supported for rotation around an axis of rotation; a rotor including a plurality of radially outwardly extending protrusions circumferentially interleaved with the plurality of radially inwardly extending protrusions, and arranged to non-rotatably connect to a camshaft; a plurality of phaser chambers, each phaser chamber circumferentially bounded by a radially inwardly extending protrusion included in the plurality of radially inwardly extending protrusions and a radially outwardly extending protrusion included in the plurality of radially outwardly extending protrusions; an annular washer; and a target wheel including a first portion axially located between the annular washer and the rotor and in contact with the annular washer, arranged to detect a rotational position of the rotor for use in rotating the rotor with respect to the stator.

A variable camshaft phaser is provided having a stator attached to a driving part, and a rotor located within the stator and attached to a driven part. First and second cover plates are located on respective first and second axial sides of the stator. Inwardly directed vanes of the stator, the rotor, and the first and second cover plates define at least one chamber. Radially outwardly directed vanes of the rotor divide the at least one chamber into an advance side working chamber and a retard side working chamber. A locking pin bore is located in the rotor, and a locking pin is located in the locking pin bore. One of the first and second cover plates includes a locking pin receiving opening. A magnetic part is located in the locking pin receiving opening to remove metallic particles and contaminants from the flow of pressurized hydraulic fluid.

This disclosure relates to a trigger wheel for a camshaft adjuster, having a side wall extending along a central longitudinal axis, wherein a formed feature made to project in a radial direction of the longitudinal axis is formed in a circumferential region of the side wall. The formed feature is provided at least in part with a wave profile. Moreover, the disclosure relates to a camshaft adjuster having this trigger wheel.

A hydraulic camshaft phaser including: a stator including a surface facing radially outwardly, and defining a recess; a rotor arranged to be non-rotatably connected to a camshaft and rotatable with respect to the stator; a spiral spring disposed in the recess and including a first end non-rotatably connected to the rotor and a second end non-rotatably connected to the stator; and a resilient cover plate directly connected to the surface facing radially outwardly, enclosing the spiral spring in the recess, and circumferentially preloaded. The connector is configured for being nonrotatably connected to an outer circumferential surface of a camshaft. A method of constructing a camshaft phaser for an internal combustion engine includes providing a stator and a rotor rotatable with respect to the stator; and providing a connector configured for nonrotatably fixing to the rotor, the connector being configured for being nonrotatably connected to an outer circumferential surface of a camshaft.

A camshaft phaser includes a stator defining a cavity and configured to receive power from an engine crankshaft. The phaser further includes a rotor supported within the cavity and rotatable relative to the stator. The rotor has a first face, a second face, and a first hole extending from the first face to the second face. A target wheel of the phaser has a plate portion configured to be read by a camshaft-position sensor and a hub portion seated on the first face. The hub portion defines a second hole that is aligned with the first hole. A pin extends through the first and second holes to rotationally align and secure the target wheel to the rotor.

A camshaft phaser, including: a first surface facing in a first axial direction; and a connection portion extending from the first surface in the first axial direction. A camshaft phaser, including an axis of rotation; a target wheel including a first tab and a first timing feature; a stator arranged to receive rotational torque and including a plurality of radially inwardly extending protrusions; a rotor; and a spring. The rotor includes: a second timing feature; and, a plurality of radially outwardly extending protrusions circumferentially interleaved with the plurality of radially inwardly extending protrusions. The spring urges: the target wheel in a first circumferential direction with respect to the rotor; and the first timing feature into contact with the second timing feature. The first tab axially positions the target wheel within the camshaft phaser. The target wheel is arranged to interface with a position sensor to identify a rotational position of the rotor.

A cam phaser is disclosed including a stator, a rotor positioned in the stator and including a locking pin, and a locking cover including a receiving element for receiving the locking pin. A cover plate is arranged on an opposite side of the stator from the locking cover. A check valve plate is positioned between the stator and one of the locking cover or the cover plate and including a plurality of valve elements. A plurality of fastener openings are defined in each of the stator, the locking cover, and the check valve plate. Fasteners extend through the fastener openings. In one embodiment, a radial clearance is defined between the fastener openings in the check valve plate and the fasteners. In one embodiment, at least one axially extending boss is formed around at least one fastener opening of the fastener openings formed in the check valve plate.

A cam phaser has a stator, a rotor positioned in the stator and including a locking pin, a locking cover including a receiving feature for receiving the locking pin, a cover plate, and a check valve plate positioned between the stator and the locking cover and including a plurality of valve elements. The cam phaser also has a plurality of first openings in each of the stator, locking cover, and check valve plate, a plurality of second openings in the locking cover, and a third opening formed in the check valve plate. The cam phaser further includes a retention feature for aligning components of the cam phaser during assembly, the retention feature including one or more tabs on a first component and one or more indentations on a second component receiving the one or more tabs.

A method of forming a target wheel for a camshaft phaser assembly is disclosed. The method includes providing a sheet metal body, and stamping the sheet metal body to form a sensor tab. The sensor tab includes a medial flange positioned between first and second axially extending edges. The sensor tab includes: at least one inner corner defined between the medial flange and at least one of the first axially extending edge or the second axially extending edge, and at least one outer corner defined between the medial flange and at least one of the first axially extending edge or the second axially extending edge. The method includes forming a groove in the at least one inner corner.

A cam phaser includes a stator, a rotor positioned in the stator, a cover plate positioned on a first side of the stator, a locking cover positioned on a second side of the stator, a locking pin assembly configured to selectively lock the rotor in a position relative to the stator, a plurality of aligned first openings which extend through the stator, the cover plate, and the locking cover, a plurality of fasteners respectively inserted in the plurality of aligned first openings, and a plurality of aligned central openings forming a throughbore. The locking cover has a body made from sheet metal having a first axial side, a second axial side, a plurality of the first openings extending from the first axial side to the second axial aide, and a second opening extending from the first axial side to the second axial side. The body has a web portion and a plurality of reinforcing portions which are thicker than the web portion.

A camshaft phaser including a locking clearance setting pin is provided. The camshaft phaser includes a stator including a first plurality of pin holes extending axially in at least one of the radially inwardly extending lobes arranged along an arcuate path. A locking cover engages against a first axial end face of the stator and includes a locking pin bore and a second plurality of pin holes arranged along the arcuate path and angularly spaced apart from one another by a different angular spacing than the first plurality of pin holes. A pin extends through a respective one of the first plurality of pin holes and a corresponding one of the second plurality of pin holes, such that a location of the pin sets an angular adjustment of the locking pin bore relative to the stator.
