Systems and methods provide access to location-restricted resources outside of recognized locations. An example, a method includes receiving a request for a controlled access resource from a client device and determining that the request is not associated with a recognized location but that state data exists for the client device identifier. In response to identifying the state data, the method includes generating a link for accessing the controlled access resource at a server, generating an encrypted token including a timestamp, a random number, and licensed resource information from the state data, including the encrypted token in the link, and providing the link to the client device. The client device uses the link to request the controlled access resource from the server, which determines that the request includes the token, determines that the token is not expired, and provides the controlled access resource to the client device.

Location-based access to controlled access resources

A system and method identifies a primary version out of different versions of the same document. The system selects a priority of authority for each document version based on a priority rule and information associated with the document version, and selects a primary version based on the priority of authority and information associated with the document version.

Identifying a primary version of a document

The disclosed implementations provide a method of searching for a known item. The method includes receiving a lookup request for the known item. The lookup request includes information identifying estimated values for a plurality of attributes of the known item. In accordance with the received lookup request, two or more estimated attribute-value pairs for the known item are estimated. In accordance with the received lookup request, a plurality of queries corresponding to the estimated attribute-value pairs are formulated in accordance with a plurality of predefined query types, each query having a corresponding position in a query type hierarchy. One or more candidate items are identified by executing one or more of the plurality of queries in accordance with the query type hierarchy. At least one of the candidate items is returned in response to the lookup request for the known item.

Known item search method

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for associating resources with entities. One of the methods includes clustering a plurality of first documents into one or more first document groups, wherein each of the one or more first document groups is associated with a proper name of an author; receiving a query that specifies a particular proper name of a particular author; generating a result list of one or more documents that satisfy the query, the documents being listed in order of rank; ranking the one or more first document groups based on the one or more documents that satisfy the query; and providing the one or more first document groups, wherein the one or more first document groups are presented in an order based on the ranking.

Associating resources with entities

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for associating resources based on resource associations. One of the methods includes receiving a first profile, wherein the first profile is for a first author, wherein the first profile links to one or more first documents, wherein the first author is an author of each of the one or more first documents; identifying, one or more second authors, wherein each of the one or more second authors is a co-author of one or more of the first documents; calculating, respective co-author scores for each of the one or more second authors; ranking, the one or more second authors based on their respective co-author scores; and associating, the one or more second authors with the first profile, the first profile includes a listing of the one or more second authors in an order according to the ranking.

Associating entities based on resource associations

Systems and methods for indexing a representative document from a set of duplicate documents are disclosed. Disclosed systems and methods comprise selecting a first document in a plurality of documents on the basis that the first document is associated with a query independent score. Each respective document in the plurality of documents has a fingerprint that indicates that the respective document has substantially identical content to every other document in the plurality of documents. Disclosed systems and methods further comprise indexing, in accordance with the query independent score, the first document thereby producing an indexed first document. With respect to the plurality of documents, only the indexed first document is included in a document index.

Representative document selection for a set of duplicate documents

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for query modification. In one aspect, a method includes receiving an original query including a first limitation. First search results responsive to a modified query are obtained, where the first limitation has been omitted from the modified query. One or more common characteristics shared by two or more resources are identified. Each of the two or more resources corresponds to a different highly-ranked result of the first search results. A second modified query including the original query and a second limitation representing the one or more common characteristics is generated. Second search results responsive to the second modified query are obtained. The second search results are provided in a response to the original query.

Query modification

A system and method identifies different versions of the same document in a document collection. The system and method creates multiple candidate identifiers for each document based on information associated with the document, and processes the candidate identifiers according to language specific rules. The system and method compares the processed candidate identifiers for similarity, and identifies different versions of documents based on the similarity.

Identifying multiple versions of documents

An online search system generates an index of documents using index information received from a library. Some documents have restricted access; some documents may not be available online. The search system provides links to documents in the library as well as other sites based on a search, and may include link resolvers received from the library. The search system provides access links to the link resolvers if an identifier, such as a user identification or IP address, matches an affiliation list from the library.

Document search in affiliated libraries

Duplicate documents are detected in a web crawler system. Upon receiving a newly crawled document, a set of documents, if any, sharing the same content as the newly crawled document is identified. Information identifying the newly crawled document and the selected set of documents is merged into information identifying a new set of documents. Duplicate documents are included and excluded from the new set of documents based on a query independent metric for each such document. A single representative document for the new set of documents is identified in accordance with a set of predefined conditions.

A document retrieval system generates snippets of documents for display as part of a user interface screen with search results. The snippet may be generated based on the type of query or the location of the query terms in the document. Different snippet generation algorithms may be used depending on the query type. Alternatively, snippets may be generated based on an analysis of the location of the query terms in the document.
