A glass composition includes: from 55.0 mol % to 70.0 mol % SiO; from 12.0 mol % to 20.0 mol % AlO; from 5.0 mol % to 15.0 mol % LiO; and from 4.0 mol % to 15.0 mol % NaO. The glass composition has the following relationships −8.00 mol %≤RO+RO−AlO−BO−PO≤−1.75 mol %, 9.00≤(SiO+AlO+LiO)/NaO, and (LiO+AlO+PO)/(NaO+BO)≤3.50. The glass composition may be used in a glass article or a consumer electronic product.

Glasses with low excess modifier content

Fracture resistant stress profiles in glasses

A glass composition includes from 55.0 mol % to 75.0 mol % SiO; from 8.0 mol % to 20.0 mol % AlO; from 3.0 mol % to 15.0 mol % LiO; from 5.0 mol % to 15.0 mol % NaO; and less than or equal to 1.5 mol % KO. The glass composition has the following relationships: AlO+LiO is greater than 22.5 mol %, RO+RO is greater than or equal to 18.0 mol %, RO/AlOis greater than or equal to 1.06, SiO+AlO+BO+POis greater than or equal to 78.0 mol %, and (SiO+AlO+BO+PO)/LiO is greater than or equal to 8.0. The glass composition may be used in a glass article or a consumer electronic product.

Ion-exchangeable mixed alkali aluminosilicate glasses

An opaque gahnite-spinel glass ceramic is provided. The glass ceramic includes a first crystal phase including (MgZn)AlOwhere x is less than 1 and a second crystal phase includes at least one of tetragonal ZrO, MgTaO, mullite, and cordierite. The glass ceramic has a Young's modulus greater than or equal to 90 GPa, and has a hardness greater than or equal to 7.5 GPa. The glass ceramic may be ion exchanged. Methods for producing the glass ceramic are also provided.

Ion exchangeable, opaque gahnite-spinel glass ceramics with high hardness and modulus

A composition includes: 30 mol % to 60 mol % SiO; 15 mol % to 35 mol % AlO; 5 mol % to 25 mol % YO; 0 mol % to 20 mol % TiO; and 0 mol % to 25 mol % RO, such that RO is the sum of NaO, KO, LiO, RbO, and CsO.

A composition includes 30 mol % to 60 mol % SiO; 15 mol % to 40 mol % AlO; 5 mol % to 25 mol % YO; 5 mol % to 15 mol % TiO; and 0.1 mol % to 15 mol % RO, such that RO is a sum of MgO, CaO, SrO, and BaO.

Glass-ceramics with high elastic modulus and hardness

A glass substrate formed from a glass composition is disclosed. In embodiments, the composition comprises: from 60 mol. % to 75 mol. % SiO; from 2 mol. % to 15 mol. % LiO; from 1.9 mol. % to 15 mol. % YO; and at least one of BOand NaO. BO+NaO is from 2 mol. % to 13 mol. %. YO+AlOis from 10 mol. % to 24 mol. %. A ratio RO/AlOis from 0.5 to 4, where RO is a total concentration of LiO, NaO, KO, RbO, and CsO. (RO+RO)/AlOis from 0.5 to 4.5, where RO is a total concentration of BeO, MgO, CaO, SrO, and BaO. The glass substrate has a Young's modulus from 75 gigapascals (GPa) to 110 GPa. The glass substrate is ion exchangeable to form a strengthened glass article.

YO-containing glass compositions, substrates, and articles

A glass-ceramic that includes a first crystal phase including (MgZn)AlO, where x is &#x2264;1, and a second crystal phase including tetragonal ZrO. The glass-ceramic may be substantially free of arsenic, tin, antimony, and cesium, each of the arsenic, tin, antimony, and cesium present at less than 0.01% (by mole of oxide). Further, the glass-ceramic may include a transmittance of at least about 80% to light having a wavelength of 380 nm to 760 nm.

Glass-ceramic and methods of making the same

Phosphate glasses and glass-ceramics exhibit a positive percent kill as measured by United States EPA Test Method for Efficacy of Copper Alloy Surfaces as a Sanitizer and/or have a CIELAB L* value below 35, CIELAB a* and b* values within 5 of zero.
