The invention provides a circuit arrangement for igniting gas discharge flash tubes including a gas discharge flash tube having two-spaced-apart electrodes, a pulse forming network and a voltage generator for supplying ignition pulses and tube burning pulses during simmer mode, the arrangement having a resonant circuit connected in circuit between the electrodes and the voltage generator, wherein the voltage generator provides the resonant circuit with AC high frequency voltage for producing gradually increasing amplitudes of an AC voltage until ignition voltage is achieved and for supplying AC voltage of a lower level in comparison to the level of the ignition voltage, for sustaining the burning of the tube during the simmer mode.

Circuit arrangement for igniting gas discharge flash tubes

An uninterruptible power supply provides internal or external connection of an auxiliary power source to a main power supply so as to provide continuous device power without requiring any modification to the main power supply itself and without duplicating its power circuit. The uninterruptible power supply (UPS) comprises a switch power supply (SPS) including a rectifier, DC to DC converter and at least one holdover capacitor connected across the input terminals of DC to DC power converter. A backup system supplies DC power from a battery to the holdover capacitors, and a back up control circuit supplies high voltage DC energy to the SPS at fixed time intervals and ensures smooth transition to AC utility power upon resumption of such power following a failure. An auxiliary AC power output signal is maintained for a video monitor or other device during operation of the uninterruptible power supply.

Uninterruptible power supply based on non-invasive connection of backup

A multi-channel single stage high power factor AC to DC converter comprising a pair of input terminals for connecting to an a.c. supply voltage, a bridge rectifier connected across the input terminal, for converting the a.c. supply voltage to a d.c. voltage, and a D.C. to D.C. converter connected to the bridge rectifier and including a high frequency switch for converting the d.c. voltage to high frequency intermittent pulses, a transformer having a primary winding connected to the high frequency switch and having at least two secondary windings each connected to a respective rectifier for producing a d.c. output voltage thereacross. A pair of capacitors are connected in the input of the DC to DC converter so that when the switch is OPEN a first one of the capacitors receives energy from the a.c. supply and a second one of the capacitors receives energy from the transformer, whilst when the switch is CLOSED the first capacitor restores energy to the transformer and the second capacitor restores charge to the a.c. supply. Such a configuration avoids the need to split the energy transfer capacitor between the input and output of the DC to DC converter and thus avoids duplication of part of the energy transfer capacitor in each output channel when multiple outputs are provided.
