A bimodal polyethylene-based composition that is useful for making under film extrusion conditions a film that beneficially has both decreased water vapor transmission rate and decreased haze. The composition comprises an improved design of the composition of the polyethylene blend of a higher molecular weight polyethylene polymer constituent and a lower molecular weight polyethylene polymer constituent and an effective amount of a nucleating agent. Additional embodiments include a method of making the bimodal polyethylene-based composition, a formulation comprising the bimodal polyethylene-based composition and at least one additive, a method of making a manufactured article from the bimodal polyethylene-based composition or formulation; the manufactured article made thereby, use of the bimodal polyethylene-based composition for protecting a moisture-sensitive material, and a sealed package made therefrom. Bimodal polyethylene-based composition

The present invention relates to oriented, multilayer polyethylene films. In one aspect, a biaxially oriented, multilayer polyethylene film comprises at least one layer comprising: (1) a polyethylene-based composition that comprises: (a) at least 97% by weight, based on the total weight of the polyethylene-based composition, of a polyethylene composition comprising: (i) from 25 to 37 percent by weight of a first polyethylene fraction having a density in the range of 0.935 to 0.947 g/cmand a melt index (I) of less than 0.1 g/10 minutes; and (ii) from 63 to 75 percent by weight of a second polyethylene fraction; and (b) 20 to 5000 ppm, based on the total weight of the polyethylene-based composition of a nucleating agent, wherein the nucleating agent comprises a calcium salt of 1,2-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid or sodium 4-[(4-chlorobenzoyl) amino] benzoate; wherein the polyethylene composition has less than 0.10 branches per 1,000 carbon atoms when measured usingC NMR, wherein the density of the polyethylene-based composition is at least 0.965 g/cm, and wherein the melt index (I) of the polyethylene-based composition is 0.5 to 10 g/10 minutes.

Oriented polyethylene films and articles comprising the same

The present invention is directed to polyethylene-based compositions suitable for packaging applications, films, and articles. The polyethylene-based composition according to embodiments disclosed herein includes a polyethylene composition having a first polyethylene fraction and a second polyethylene fraction as well as a calcium salt of 1,2-cyclohexanedicarbodylic acid. The polyethylene-based composition can deliver a balance of properties, including barrier properties, for packaging applications.

Polyethylene-based compositions and films and articles comprising the same

A polymeric composition includes an ethylene-based polymer, one or more of an ionomer and an acid copolymer, a flame-retardant filler, and a maleic anhydride functionalized polyolefin. The polymeric composition has an MAH Product of 3 or greater.

Flame retardant polymeric compositions

A composition for odor control includes (A) from 85 wt % to 99.5 wt % of an olefin-based compound and (B) from 15 wt % to 0.5 wt % of an odor suppressant. The odor suppressant includes a blend of (i) an ionomer, (ii) particles of zinc oxide, and (iii) particles of copper oxide. The composition has a methyl mercaptan odor suppression value of greater than 45% as measured in accordance with ASTM D5504-12.

Composition for odor suppression

According to at least one embodiment of the present disclosure, polyethylene formulations and modified polyethylene compositions are provided. Embodiments of the polyethylene formulation may include a free radical generator; and a multimodal polyethylene composition. The multimodal polyethylene composition may include a peak in a temperature range of 95&#xb0; C. to 120&#xb0; C. in the elution profile via improved comonomer composition distribution (iCCD), wherein a polyethylene fraction area is an area in the elution profile beneath the peak of the polyethylene fraction between 95&#xb0; C. and 120&#xb0; C., and wherein the polyethylene fraction area comprises at least 20% of the total area of the elution profile and a molecular weight (M) of less than 80,000 g/mol in the temperature range of from 95&#xb0; C. to 120&#xb0; C. on an elution profile via iCCD. The modified polyethylene composition may be the reaction product of the free radical generator and the multimodal polyethylene composition.

Polyethylene compositions

The present disclosure provides a composition. In an embodiment, the composition includes (A) from 85 wt % to 99 wt % of an olefin-based polymer and (B) from 15 wt % to 1 wt % of an odor suppressant. The odor suppressant is a blend of (i) particles of zinc oxide, and (ii) zinc ionomer. The zinc oxide particles have a D50 particle size from 100 nm to 3000 nm, a surface area from 1 m/g to 9 m/g, and a porosity less than 0.020 m/g. The composition has a methyl mercaptan odor suppression value of less than 70 at 3 days as measured in accordance with ASTM D5504-12.

The present disclosure provides a film. In an embodiment, a film for suppressing odors is provided and includes a composition of (A) from 85 wt % to 99 wt % of a thermoplastic polymer and (B) from 15 wt % to 1 wt % of an odor suppressant. The odor suppressant is a blend composed of (Bi) particles of zinc oxide and (Bii) zinc ionomer. The zinc oxide particles (Bi) have a D50 particle size from 100 nm to 3000 nm, a surface area from 1 m/g to 9 m/g, and a porosity less than 0.020 m/g. The composition has a methyl mercaptan odor suppression value less than 70 at 3 days exposure to methyl mercaptan as measured in accordance with ASTM D5504-12.

Film for odor suppression

A composition includes polyethylene; a multifunctional co-agent having a functionality of 3 or greater, where the multifunctional co-agent is from 100 to 2000 ppm based upon the polyethylene; and a free radical generator, where the free radical generator is from 5 to 100 ppm based upon the polyethylene. Such composition may be utilized to form modified polyethylenes.

Modified polyethylenes

A method for increasing the melt strength and/or low shear viscosity of a polyethylene resin, the method comprising: a) providing a first polyethylene resin having a density ranging from 0.900 g/cmto 0.970 g/cm, a melt index ranging from 0.01 g/10 min to 30 g/10 min, and at least 0.20 vinyl groups per 1,000 total carbons; b) providing a masterbatch composition comprising a free radical generator and a second polyethylene resin, wherein the free radical generator has a half-life at 220&#xb0; C. of less than 200 seconds, and a decomposition energy higher than &#x2212;250 kJ/mol, and wherein the second polyethylene resin has a density ranging from 0.900 g/cmto 0.970 g/cm, melt index ranging from 0.01 g/10 min to 100 g/10 min; and c) reacting the first polyethylene resin with the masterbatch composition to form a modified polyethylene resin.

Modified polyethylene resins and method for making the same

A process includes (a) injecting a steam composition into a subterranean location containing heavy hydrocarbons, preferably bitumen, wherein the steam composition comprises (i) steam and (ii) a hydroxyalkyl ammonium carboxylate and (b) recovering the heavy hydrocarbon from the subterranean location to above the ground. The process is preferably a cyclic steam stimulation (CSS) process, a steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD), or a combination thereof.
