A biomimetic skin for an animatronic figure and other applications is provided. The biomimetic skin may include an outer layer having a surface texture, and an inner layer attached to the outer layer. The inner layer may include a compressible cellular material. The outer layer may move correspondingly with the inner layer such that as the inner layer is moved the outer layer moves.

The present disclosure includes a method for altering one or more properties of a primary material. The method includes reducing the elasticity of a primary material and creating a delivery aperture through an outer layer of the primary material. Once the delivery aperture is created, or as the delivery aperture is created, introducing through the delivery aperture a secondary material into a sublayer of the primary material and applying a closure treatment to the primary material to close the delivery aperture. The secondary material includes one or more properties that are different from the primary material. By introducing the secondary material into the primary material, the secondary material locally changes the properties of the primary material. Examples of the variable properties include color, strength, flexibility, magnetism, and optical.

Method for modifying local properties of materials

The present disclosure relates generally to a backlit luminous structure. The backlit luminous structure includes a substrate, such as a two dimensional or three dimensional object or surface, an ultraviolet emitting electroluminescent coating or other type of UV emitting coating that emits ultraviolet wavelengths when activated, and an ultraviolet activated luminous coating applied on the ultraviolet emitting electroluminescent coating. When activated, the ultraviolet emitting electroluminescent coating generates ultraviolet wavelengths that aviate the luminous coating. The backlit luminous structure may be used in a variety of applications, such as, but not limited to, theme parks, amusement attractions, or the like.

An apparatus or three dimensional (3D) printer is provided for generating a 3D object. The apparatus includes a print chamber and a liquid print matrix such as a photo-curing resin positioned in the print chamber. The apparatus includes an optical assembly focusing light into the print chamber in the form of a real image whose light initiates curing processes for a volume of the liquid print matrix to form the 3D object. The light focused into the print chamber has a wavelength within a wavelength curing range for the photo-curing resin. The real image may be formed using an optical assembly reflecting or redirecting and focusing light reflected from outer surfaces of an existing 3D object. The real image may also be provided in the form of a volumetric image displayed by a volumetric display device displaying planes of a 3D digital model or image of a 3D object.
