Patients suffering from Parkinson's disease are treated by administering a composition which contains an active ingredient and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The active ingredient comprises L-DOPA ethyl ester in an amount which is at least 97% by weight of the active ingredient and L-DOPA in an amount which is less than 1% by weight of the active ingredient.

L-DOPA ethyl ester to treat Parkinson's disease

A composition which comprises a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and an active ingredient, such active ingredient comprising L-DOPA ethyl ester derived from its crystaline form in an amount which is at least 97%, by weight, of the active ingredient, and L-DOPA in an amount which is less than 1% by weight of such active ingredient is provided by this invention. This invention also provides a process for preparing such a composition. Further, this invention provides a method of treating a patient suffering from Parkinson's disease which comprises administering to a patient a pharmaceutical composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of L-DOPA ethyl ester derived from its crystaline form and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

Compositions of the ethyl ester of L-DOPA

The invention provides a regiospecific process for the preparation of 1,3-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)-propan-2-ol derivatives comprising reacting an oxirane acid salt or an oxirane, under acidic conditions, with 4H-4-amino-1,2,4-triazole. The process is particularly useful for preparing fluconazole which is useful in the treatment of fungal infections in animals and humans.

A composition which comprises a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and an active ingredient, such active ingredient comprising L-DOPA ethyl ester in an amount which is at least 97%, by weight, of the active ingredient, and L-DOPA in an amount which is less than 1% by weight of such active ingredient is provided by this invention. This invention also provides a process for preparing such a composition. Further, this invention provides a method of treating a patient suffering from Parkinson's disease which comprises administering to a patient a pharmaceutical composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of L-DOPA ethyl ester and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
