Methods and systems for operating a hybrid driveline that includes an engine and an electric machine are presented. In one non-limiting example, the engine and electric machine are operated according to a solution of a Hamiltonian that includes a first co-state and a second co-state, an engine fuel flow parameter, a rate of change of battery state of charge parameter, and an emissions flow rate parameter.

System and method for improving vehicle driveline operation

A hybrid vehicle includes powertrain components such as an engine, an automatic transmission, and a traction motor selectively coupled to the engine via a clutch and to the transmission. At least one controller is programmed to control these powertrain components. The vehicle is driven over a drive cycle that includes multiple engine starts and transmission gear shifts. An amount of fuel consumption used during these engine starts and transmissions gear shifts is stored on an on-board storage device. Subsequently, the engine is inhibited from starting and the transmission is inhibited from shifting gears based on the amount of fuel consumption associated with the engine starts and transmission gear shifts performed during the drive cycle as recalled from the storage device.

In at least one embodiment, a fuel cell anode exhaust system includes a fuel cell anode having an input and an output. The system also includes a first conduit loop communicating with the anode input and output. The system also includes a second conduit loop having an input and an output. A distributed torque monitoring and control system for a hybrid vehicle. The hybrid vehicle has a power transfer unit adapted to drive a vehicle wheel and a power source adapted to drive the power transfer unit. The system includes a local torque monitor and a vehicle level torque monitor. The local torque monitor is associated with the power source and is adapted to implement a local mitigation strategy to inhibit undesired torque. The vehicle level torque monitor is adapted to implement a vehicle level mitigation strategy to inhibit acceleration of the hybrid vehicle if the local mitigation strategy is unsuccessful.

A method for monitoring torque in an electric motor is provided. First, the motor current is measured and the AC torque is determined based on the measured current. The speed of the motor and the DC motor power are then determined. The DC torque is calculated as a function of the DC motor power and the motor speed. The DC torque is then compared to the AC torque. After the AC torque is verified, it is compared to a reference torque to determine if the difference between the torques is within a torque deviation tolerance.

A method and strategy for providing real-time estimates of the machine parameters of an induction machine, including rotor resistance, rotor inductance, stator resistance, stator inductance and mutual inductance. The induction machine is a part of a torque delivery driveline. The method comprises expressing stator voltage as a function of machine parameters, stator current, stator excitation frequency and slip frequency. A functional relationship of rotor current, rotor resistance, rotor flux, electrical speed of applied stator voltage and rotor electrical speed is defined. Rotor current and characteristic parameters are calculated, the machine parameters being calculated using the characteristic parameters.

A speed sensorless controller for an induction motor with rotor resistance estimation, using stator currents and voltages. The rotor resistance and speed estimation are obtained as a solution of a linear algebraic system with pseudo current and voltage signals and their observable derivatives as inputs. The proposed scheme provides accurate, real-time estimation of the speed and rotor time constants in all motor operational modes. It can also be used for real-time motor tuning if a speed signal is available.
