Tracking of targets in video captured by a multi-camera surveillance system is often difficult due to incomplete camera coverage and due to the complexities associated with automated recognition in a dense and highly variable environment. The present disclosure embraces a system and method for target tracking in a multi-camera surveillance system that reduces the time required for a user to track a target by offering computer generated search results that include suggestions of candidates found in the video that match (to some degree) the target. When one of the candidates is selected by a user, the search is shifted to other cameras and continued. In this way, the target may be tracked quickly. Further, a playlist of video snippets of the target is accumulated during the search and can be played to show all captured video of the target moving about the facility.

Target tracking in a multi-camera surveillance system

Digital rights management (DRM) of video data is selectively applied to video data by a video processing system that receives a video, comprising a number of frames, and processes at least one frame from the video to determine the contents of the video. The digital rights management for the video is then configured based on the contents of the video.

System and method for digital rights management control using video analytics

A method for operating a video system is provided. The method includes receiving video data comprising a scene from a video capture device at a video processor, and processing the video data to produce first video data of the scene at a first quality level in the video processor. The method continues by transferring the first video data at a first data rate from the video processor to a remote video processor, receiving a control signal, and processing the video data to produce second video data of the scene at a second quality level in response to the control signal in the video processor, where the second quality level is greater than the first quality level. The method concludes by transferring the second video data at a second data rate from the video processor to the remote video processor.

A method of searching for objects of interest within captured video comprising capturing video of a plurality of scenes, storing the video in a plurality of storage elements, and receiving a request to retrieve contiguous video of an object of interest that has moved through at least two scenes of the plurality of scenes. In response to the request, searching within a first storage element of the plurality of storage elements to identify a first portion of the video that contains the object of interest within a first scene of the plurality of scenes, processing the first portion of the video to determine a direction of motion of the object of interest, selecting a second storage element of the plurality of storage elements within which to search for the object of interest based on the direction of motion, searching within the second storage element to identify a second portion of the video that contains the object of interest within a second scene of the plurality of scenes, and linking the first portion of the video with the second portion of the video to generate the contiguous video of the object of interest.

Method and apparatus to search video data for an object of interest

A method for operating a video system is provided. The method includes receiving video data of a first scene and a second scene, processing at least a first portion of the video data to generate a first video of the first scene having a first quality level, processing at least a second portion of the video data to generate a second video of the second scene having a second quality level, and processing at least a third portion of the video data to detect an occurrence of an event in the first scene. In response to detecting the occurrence of the event in the first scene, the method continues by processing at least a fourth portion of the video data to generate a third video of the first scene at a third quality level, where the third quality level is different than the first quality level, and transferring the third video for display.
