A novel electric rectifier for use in a rectenna device is provided. The rectenna device can advantageously be used in a variety of applications. The electric rectifier comprises an integrated structure comprising: a diode structure comprising first and second electrodes located in first and second conductive layers respectively and an insulating layer between them, the diode structure being configured and operable for receiving an input signal and generating output signal indicative thereof, and a compensation structure electrically connected in parallel to said diode structure and being configured to compensate the parasitic capacitance of the diode structure when a frequency spectrum of the input signal is beyond the diode's cutoff frequency.

This invention relates generally to automatic radio-frequency (RF) real-time high-way toll collection from moving vehicles. It especially adapted to the use of an untraceable electronic check debited from smart card and communicated in a cryptographically sealed envelope message. The invention relates directly to an in-vehicle unit (IVN), noncontact IC card (NIC), and a roadside collection station (RCS) and to an overall system incorporating a plurality of RCS's, IVN's and NIC's. The invention may be used for parking collections and other types of road pricing and individual access remote control applications, that require personal authentication and payment. The new in the art is two-way radio-based electronic toll collection method on highway comprising the steps of providing communication terminal (Reader/Writer) with RF antenna which transmits continuously downlink energy-transmitting signal at first predetermined frequency, and generates a communication hopping channels for bi-directional data transfer, moreover hopping frequency is synthesized of said first predetermined frequency used as reference. Next phase of said toll collection method is to furnish each vehicle passing along the highway with a noncontact IC card capable to receive downlinked energy-transmitting signal in order to power the electronic components integrated within IC card, to synthesize of a communication channels of hopping frequency, that are synchronized by the said first radio-frequency used as reference.

Two-way radio-based electronic toll collection method and system for highway

The present invention relates to methods and systems for power and energy transfer for non-contact IC cards, which is capable to communicate with an external device such as a host terminal. The disclosed method and system give the possibility to combine inductive coupling for remote power and data transmission, and capacitive coupling while IC card is attached to terminal, in order to transfer a large amount of energy. The new in the art is that bidirectional data and energy transfer from a terminal into an IC card is performing at two different carrier frequencies of an energy-transmitting alternating field. Herein the remote data transmission and energy transfer into the IC card is provided at first, lowest, frequency, utilizing the inductive coupling between a terminal transmitting-receiving coil and a IC card transmitting-receiving coil. Additionally, the close contactless energy and data transmission into the IC card is provided at second, higher, frequency utilizing the capacitive coupling between a terminal and IC card capacitive pads while IC card is attached to the terminal. The first frequency is designed to be a frequency of a parallel resonance combined by parallel alignment of an IC card inductive coil and a distributed capacitance of an IC card capacitive pads. The second frequency is designed to be a frequency of a series resonant circuit associated with series alignment of additional terminal inductance and joint capacitance of a terminal capacitive pads and IC card capacitive pads, when card is attached to terminal.

Method and system for contactless energy transmission and data exchange between a terminal and IC card

A power and data transfer system includes a portable device with a first contact circuit formed from a pair of contact pads having an outer surface covered with a dielectric material. A processing unit is coupled to the first contact circuit. A host unit has a second contact circuit including a second pair of contact pads which are also covered with a dielectric material. A host processing unit is coupled to the second contact circuit. The first and second contact circuits are adapted to form a capacitive interface when the portable device is positioned proximate the host unit. The capacitive interface transmits power signals from the host unit to the portable device. The same contacts are used to transmit bi-directional data signals between the portable device and the host unit.
