In embodiments consistent with the subject matter of this disclosure, an application program interface (API) for asynchronously replicating changes made to active data to one or more replicas of the active data may be provided. A calling application may call the API to asynchronously replicate changes made to the active data. Via an interface, the application may indicate whether the changes made to the active data may be asynchronously replicated to a geo-diverse replica of the data, a type of third tier commit for acknowledging replication of the changes to the active data, and/or a number or percentage of acknowledgments to receive with respect to the replication of the changes to the one or more replicas of the active data. Via the API, the calling application may further indicate an amount of time to wait for an acknowledgment of the asynchronous replicating of the changes before continuing.

Third tier transactional commit for asynchronous replication

A single native integrated system may be provided for replicating data to one or more copies of high-availability data and for replicating the data to one or more copies of backup data. The data may be replicated, in near real-time, to the one or more copies of high-availability data as changes occur to the data. The data may be replicated and later incorporated to a copy of the backup data at different points in time. The single native integrated system may have a single set of functions for replicating the data to the one or more copies of high-availability data and for replicating the data for the one or more copies of the backup data. Administrative access to the one or more copies of high-availability data may be isolated from administrative access to the one or more copies of the backup data.

Integrated data availability and historical data protection

Provided is a messaging system capable of detecting and processing at least a portion of a malformed message, e.g., a message that previously failed to process. An identifier and state information for the message can be logged. Based on the stored information, a determination can be made that the message previously failed to process. The message can then progressively be de-featured until the message can be processed or until the message is determined to be poisonous, whereupon it can be deleted or otherwise removed from the message stream permanently or temporarily&#x2014;including moving the message to storage for operator inspection or for delayed delivery.
