A cross connector for the transparent switching of optical signals is disclosed, comprising a first switching module with one or several switching modules of varying granularity, such as patch panel, wavelength groups or/and wavelengths. A second switching device is connected in series with the first switching device and comprises a polarization multiplex switching granularity.

Cross-connector for optical signals

According to the invention, in add-drop devices of an optical cross-connect device for wavelength multiplex signals, tributary drop signals to be dropped are pre-selected in the drop branch by means of pre-selection elements. Only these signals are amplified, thus reducing the number and/or power of the optical amplifiers. The tributary drop signals are individually selected by means of drop routing elements and adjustable filters. The add branch is created correspondingly.

Add-drop device and cross-connect device for wavelength multiplex signals

A tunable add/drop&continue or drop&continue module comprises two optical filters where at least one is tunable and that are arranged following one another between a branching unit for optical signals and an insertion unit follow a branching unit for optical signals. The reflection attenuation of the one tunable optical filter is lower and the transmission attenuation higher than that of the other optical filter, as a result of which the drop&continue function of the module can be realized without high circuit-oriented expense.

Add/drop-drop and continue-module and drop and continue module

An optical network node is provided having add-drop and/or cross-connect functions, wherein the optical network node includes a first optical line with a first drop branch and a first add branch, and a second optical line with a second drop branch and a second add branch, wherein the first drop branch and the second drop branch are in each case connected to a first cross-connect and to a second cross-connect, the first add branch is connected to the first cross-connect and to the second cross-connect via a first wavelength converter, and the second add branch is connected to the first cross-connect and to the second cross-connect via a second wavelength converter.

Optical node with add-drop or cross-connect functionality

In an optical plug-type connection between two optical conductors having an optical terminal which receives an optical plug-type member, an electrical connection is provided for verifying that the optical plug-type connection has been made and/or released. This verification reduces the likelihood of an optical plug-type connection being erroneously acquired in the network management system and, thus, significantly reduces problems in locating errors in the optical communication system.
