Electromechanical relay constructions comprise an external housing, a pair of switchable electrical contacts disposed within the housing, an element for activating the pair of electrical contacts, and a temperature sensing element disposed within the housing adjacent the electrical contracts. The temperature sensing element provides a signal for determining the temperature within the relay housing. The relay may comprise two or more temperature sensing elements disposed within the housing a desired distance from one another. The temperature sensing element may be attached to a member or substrate disposed within the housing, may be attached to an existing internal structure of the housing, or may be attached to one of the contacts. The temperature sensing element may be selected from the group consisting of resistance temperature detectors, negative temperature coefficient thermistors, thermopile sensors, thermocouples, and combinations thereof.

Electromechanical relay constructions

An interconnect device includes a body portion with conductors passing through the body portion. An energy harvesting device, a power controller device and a rechargeable DC power source are configured such that the power controller device includes instructions programmed thereon for controlling the flow of power between the energy harvesting device, the DC power source, and a microcontroller. Sensor devices are in electrical communication with the microcontroller. The sensors are arranged to detect parameters associated with the interconnect device and communicate the parameters to the microcontroller. An output device communicates data from the microcontroller associated with the at least one sensor.

A relay circuit includes a power supply to apply an AC input line voltage to the relay circuit, a relay coil and at least one pair of contacts actuated by the relay coil. A zero cross detection circuit and a control logic circuit for the relay circuit are also disclosed. The control logic circuit determines a zero crossover point in response to an output signal from the zero crossover detection circuit, and controls a relay coil to actuate the relay contacts to switch a load at the zero crossover point of a load current when the load is connected to the at least one pair of relay contacts, such that the voltage and current across the relay contacts is zero.
