An energy storage module for providing backup power to electronic systems includes one or more capacitor banks, each including one or more capacitors for storing energy. The energy storage module also includes a first voltage regulator that may, during a normal mode of operation, provide a regulated direct current (DC) voltage to charge the one or more capacitors of each capacitor bank. In addition, each of the capacitor banks may include a voltage leveling circuit that may maintain a specific voltage on the capacitors. Further, the energy storage module includes an output circuit that may, during a backup mode of operation, provide an output voltage derived from an output of each of the one or more capacitor banks. The output circuit includes a control unit configured to regulate and combine the output of each of the one or more capacitor banks.

Backup energy storage module with voltage leveling

A rack mountable solid-state storage subsystem includes a plurality of interface units and a plurality of data storage modules to implement a mass storage device. Each of the interface units may be coupled to a plurality of communication ports for connection to a host server and to other interface units. Each data storage module may be detachably mated to a corresponding connector mounted to a motherboard. Each data storage module may also include a non-volatile flash memory storage and a volatile storage. The data storage modules may be partitioned into a plurality of portions, each coupled to a respective interface unit via the motherboard. Each portion of the data storage modules and the respective interface unit to which each portion is coupled may form a separate storage domain that is isolated from each other domain. The storage subsystem may also include redundant power supplies and backup power supplies.

Self-contained densely packed solid-state storage subsystem

An energy storage module includes a motherboard and a connector that may convey power, ground, and I/O signals to and from the motherboard. The connector includes a non-metallic housing that includes a plurality of sections, each having a corresponding connector contact portion. A first contact portion includes a first non-metallic protrusion and a first plurality of metallic blade contacts positioned thereon, and the first metallic blade contacts may convey backup power. A second contact portion includes a second non-metallic protrusion and a second plurality of metallic blade contacts positioned thereon, and the second metallic blade contacts may convey a circuit ground return path for the backup power. Further, a third contact portion includes a third non-metallic protrusion and a plurality of metallic pin contacts positioned thereon, and the metallic pin contacts may convey input/output (I/O) signals, input power, and a circuit ground return path for the input power.
