A method and system provide an optical coherence tomography system including a light source, an interferometric system, a processor and a memory. The interferometric system is optically coupled with the light source and includes at least one movable scanning mirror. The processor and memory are coupled with the interferometric system. The processor executes instructions stored in the memory to cause the movable scanning mirror to scan a plurality of points in a sample in at least one pattern. The at least one pattern is based on at least one of at least one Lissajous curve and at least one Spirograph curve.

Various systems, processes, and computer program products may be used to perform retinal laser surgery. In particular implementations, systems, processes, and computer program products may include the ability to identify retina blood vessels from a retina image and determine a retina location needing therapy and not substantially intersecting a retina blood vessel. The systems, processes, and computer program products may also include the ability to generate a command to activate a retinal laser when a beam from the retinal laser will be aligned with the therapeutic location.

The first wavefront sensor can be configured to determine aberrations in the first reflection wavefront of a reflection of the first light beam. The microscope can include adaptive optical element(s). The adaptive optical element(s) can be controlled to modify the phase of incident light. The microscope can include a computing device in communication with the first wavefront sensor and the adaptive optical element(s). The computing device can be configured to generate the control signal to compensate for the aberrations and to provide the control signal to the adaptive optical element(s). A second light source and second wavefront sensor can be provided to compensate for aberrations of a subject's eye.

An ophthalmic illuminator is provided that includes a pulse generator to provide amplified pulses and an amplifier to amplify the current pulses to produce amplified pulses. A light source within the ophthalmic illuminator is driven by the amplified pulses so as to stroboscopically illuminate a vibrating ophthalmic surgical tool within the interior of an eye.

In various embodiments, a phacoemulsification cutting tip with a straight shaft and an angled portion off of the straight shaft may include a hook on the angled portion to move an axis of rotation of the cutting tip closer to alignment with an extended centerline of the shaft. The cutting tip may be configured to torsionally rotate back and forth on an axis perpendicular to a centerline of the shaft (e.g., rotation around a y-axis). In some embodiments, lateral vibrations (e.g., side to side along an x-axis or z-axis perpendicular to the y-axis) that result from torsional rotation around the y-axis in a cutting tip without the hook may be reduced through use of the hook to balance the otherwise eccentrically weighted hook.

A system comprises first and second beamsplitter modules aligned along an alignment line. In certain embodiments, each beamsplitter module can split a beam traveling along a first optical path into a first split beam and a second split beam within a spectral range. Each beamsplitter module can transmit the first split beam along the first optical path and direct the second split beam along a second optical path substantially orthogonal to the first optical path and to the alignment line. In certain embodiments, each beamsplitter module can receive a first beam traveling along a first optical path and a second beam traveling along a second optical path that is substantially orthogonal to the first optical path and to the alignment line. Each beamsplitter module can combine the second beam with the first beam to yield a combined beam and transmit the combined beam along the first optical path.

Disclosed is an exemplary optical sensing system including at least one light source for emitting light in a first wavelength range and light in a second wavelength. An image sensor is provided for detecting light emitted from the at least one light source. The optical sensing system also includes a first optical filter disposed in a first optical path extending between the light source and the image sensor, the first optical filter configured to pass light emitted in the first wavelength range, and to substantially block light emitted in the second wavelength range. A second optical filter is disposed in a second optical path extending between the light source and the image sensor, the second optical filter configured to pass light emitted from the at least one light source in the second wavelength range, and to substantially block light emitted in the first wavelength range.

An ophthalmic illuminator includes a one or more light combining stages arranged in series to augment a white light source with various color spectral bands. A first stage combines white light from a white light source with colored light from a first color source. Each subsequent stage in the series adds its own respective colored light. The color sources may be selectively turned on/off or driven with variable amounts of power. In this fashion, a combined light is produced by the final stage that represents a desired chromaticity and brightness as desired for a particular ophthalmic therapeutic procedure.

An irrigation source identification system includes an irrigation source, an imaging device, and a processor. The irrigation source includes a container for holding a quantity of irrigation fluid and a port fluidly coupled to the container. The port has an outlet end and a neck. The neck has a plurality of protrusions selected from a grouping of protrusions. The plurality of protrusions provides a unique identifier for the container. An imaging device images the neck and the plurality of protrusions of the irrigation source, and the processor determines which identifier is associated with the image.

Disclosed is an exemplary illumination device for enhancing the brightness and chromaticity of an illuminator employing light emitting diodes (LED). The illumination device may include a first light source configured to emit light at a first wavelength range. A first dichroic optical element associated with the first light source may be configured to optically block less than the entire wavelength range of the light emitted from the first light source. The illumination device may also include a second light source configured to emit light at second wavelength range substantially corresponding to the wavelength range optically blocked by the first dichroic optical element.
