A valve for preventing hydraulic shock and water hammer in downstream equipment, the valve including a valve body with an internal oil dampening chamber, an orifice arranged within the oil dampening chamber, a flow dampener positioned between the valve inlet and the orifice, and a spring between the valve body and the orifice. The valve is pressure compensated based on the ambient fluid pressure.

Automatic choking hydraulic shock reduction valve

A pressure regulator for a BOP stack includes a housing having an input port, an output port, and a pilot port and a regulator piston axially movable through the housing between an open position and a closed position. The regulator piston has an internal passage formed through its first axial end. When the regulator piston is in the open position, the internal passage is in fluid communication with the input and output ports. When the regulator piston is in the closed position, the internal passage is in fluid communication with the output port and fluidly isolated from the input port. A space with regulator fluid is also provided within the housing adjacent a second axial end of the regulator piston, opposite the first axial end, wherein the space is fluidly isolated from the input port and the output port in both the open position and the closed position.

Pressure regulator for fluid hammer reduction

A subsea wiring apparatus includes a housing having a cavity extending from a first end to a second end. The apparatus also includes an electrical connector arranged within the cavity, the electrical connector receiving at least one conductor. The apparatus further includes a separator extending at least partially into the cavity, wherein the separator receives the at least one conductor and directs the at least one conductor into a passage. The apparatus also includes an isolating material within the cavity, the isolating material extending from the first end to the second end, wherein the isolating material surrounds at least a portion of the conductor to block fluid communication with the conductor.

Systems and methods for subsea wiring splices

A system for blowout prevention includes one or more components controlled at least in part by hydraulics, an inlet line fluidly coupled to receive a pressurized fluid from a hydraulic source, and a plurality of delivery lines fluidly coupled to the inlet line and providing hydraulic fluid to the one or more components. The blowout preventer further includes a temperature control device located on the inlet line, wherein the temperature control device creates a differential between the temperature of a fluid inside the inlet line at the location of the temperature control device and an ambient temperature. The blowout preventer further includes a plurality of temperature sensors located on the plurality of delivery lines at different positions, the plurality of temperature sensors configured to measure the temperature of the delivery line at the respective positions.

Temperature based leak detection for blowout preventers

A plurality of PODs for a lower marine riser package (LMRP) is disclosed. At least a first subsea electronics module (SEM) and a second SEM are provided in a first POD of the plurality of PODs. At least a third SEM and a fourth SEM are provided in a second pod. The third SEM is redundant with the first SEM and the fourth SEM is redundant with the second SEM. At least one selector circuit is provided to transmit an SEM select signal that electrically activates or electrically deactivates the first SEM separately from the third SEM. As a result, each of the SEMs in the plurality of PODs may be separately activated or deactivated without a need to turn off fluid provided to hydraulic valves in the first and the second PODs that are controlled by corresponding SEMs.

Select mode subsea electronics module

A mechanism to reduce load of a hydraulic cylinder having a body, a stem movable within the body, and a piston rod connected to the stem. The mechanism includes a mechanism body attached to the body and defining a recess, and a retainer attached to the mechanism adjacent the opening of the recess so that the retainer substantially fills the opening of the recess, and having an aperture that receives an end of the piston rod. The mechanism further includes a cap attached to the piston rod of the hydraulic cylinder within the recess, the cap having a diameter greater than the diameter of the aperture in the retainer, and a spring connected to the cap at a first end and to the retainer at a second end so that as the piston rod moves relative to the failsafe mechanism body, to reduce load transfer between the piston rod and the cylinder body.

Failsafe system and method for reducing load in a hydraulic cylinder

Blowout preventer (BOP) systems and methods for providing additional redundancy and reliability are provided. A BOP system for providing additional redundancy can include a first set of components including a BOP control pod with a primary regulator and a secondary regulator, where the primary regulator and the secondary regulator are arranged in a parallel configuration; a hydraulic supply line in communication with the BOP control pod; a pod select valve in communication with the primary regulator and the secondary regulator; and a bypassable hydraulic regulator in communication with the pod select valve; and a second set of components, the bypassable hydraulic regulator disposed between the pod select valve and the second set of components, where a hydraulic regulator bypass line bypasses the bypassable hydraulic regulator between the pod select valve and the second set of components.

Hydraulic re-configurable and subsea repairable control system for deepwater blow-out preventers

A subsea blowout preventer control system has horizontally oriented solenoid valve housings. Solenoid valves mounted within each of the solenoid valve housings are electrically controlled to selectively provide a hydraulic pilot signal to a hydraulic valve. A vertically extending central chamber contains a dielectric liquid and extends alongside the solenoid valve housings. A communication tube for each solenoid valve housing has an open upper end within the central chamber adjacent an upper end of the central chamber. Each of the communication tubes has an open lower end extending into one of the solenoid valve housings for communicating dielectric liquid in the central chamber with an interior of each of the solenoid valve housings. A separate drain line mounted to each of the solenoid valve housings enables draining of one of the solenoid valve housings for maintenance without requiring draining of other of the solenoid valve housings.

Solenoid valve housings for blowout preventer

A variable bore packer used in a blowout preventer to form a seal against different diameter tubular members for oil and gas drilling operations. The variable bore packer includes a packer member molded of elastomeric material with certain mechanical properties and including an inside curved surface. The packer also includes a plurality of packer inserts molded within the packer member to form an insert array. Additionally, the packer includes a protrusion extending from and bonded to the packer member inside curved surface, the protrusion including increased mechanical properties compared to the packer member. The packer member, the insert array, and the protrusion are molded into a unitary structure and sized to form a seal against the different diameter tubular members upon closure of the blowout preventer. Also, the insert array and the protrusion diminishing extrusion of the elastomeric material between the packer inserts and the tubular members.
