A system and method are disclosed for a user to monitor and/or override a forwarded call. Typically, the forwarded call was initially an incoming call from a caller to the user and thereafter forwarded to a remote service system, such as a remote messaging system. The system and method determine a redirecting number from which the incoming call was forwarded. The system and method then initiates a second call to the user and a voice path is established connecting the forwarded call to the second call. Thereafter, the user is notified, for example, with a distinct ring at the user's telephone, of the option that the user may monitor and override the forwarded call. The system and method can also execute procedures to actuate the options elected by the user.

Methods and apparatus to perform quality testing in Internet Protocol (IP) Multimedia subsystem (IMS) based communication systems are disclosed. An example IMS-based system comprises a web portal to allow a user to configure quality testing for a user endpoint and to present results of the quality testing, a test server to exchange packets with the user endpoint to perform the testing, an IMS application server to implement a state machine to establish a test session between the test server and a test module of the user endpoint, the packets to be exchanged between the test server and the test module via the session, and a data analyzer to determine one or more parameters representative of performance of the session based on the exchanged packets, and to provide the same to the web portal, the web portal to present information representative of the one or more parameters to the user.

Methods and apparatus to perform quality testing in internet protocol multimedia subsystem based communication systems

Methods and apparatus for call surveillance in Internet protocol communication networks are disclosed. An example method to perform call surveillance in a communication network disclosed herein comprises determining an overall path delay measurement associated with using a first media server to perform surveillance of a call between a first user device and a second user device in an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem network, and determining whether to perform surveillance of the call with one of the first media server or a second media server based on the overall path delay measurement.

Methods and apparatus for call surveillance in internet protocol communication networks

A Call Alerting and Control System is provided in a communication environment to allow an Internet user ('user') approximately real-time monitoring of information about an incoming call from a calling party while maintaining a connection with the Internet. The monitored information can include the calling party's name and telephone number. The system could also allow the user to provide an answering machine-type message to the calling party and the user to listen to the calling party's response to the message while still connected to the Internet. The system can further allow the user to reroute, answer or otherwise treat the incoming call while, at the user's discretion, either maintaining or disconnecting a connection to the Internet.

Method and system of screening and control of telephone calls while using a packet-switched data network

A system and method are provided for reviewing and updating a subscriber's telecommunications services using a graphical user interface via multiple data networks. A data message is received at an intelligent peripheral from the graphical user interface via at least one of the data networks. The data message indicates a subscriber's desired update to a selected service. The data message is converted into a protocol compatible with a service control point. The converted data message is identical to a data message that the intelligent peripheral would create if the subscriber had entered the desired update via an interactive voice response system. The converted data message is transmitted to the service control point, which updates the service in accordance with the subscriber's update. Thus, the service is updated substantially contemporaneously with the request. Moreover, the subscriber retains the ability to update and review service data via the interactive voice response.

System and method for providing remote access to telecommunications services

An IP (Internet Protocol) diagnostic system is provided for troubleshooting data transport quality over an Internet Protocol operating in a communication system (). The IP diagnostic system includes one or more processors () each placed at different segments () in the communication system. Each processor is programmed to receive () a request to establish a test session with a corresponding test node, establish () one or more IP connections with the test node, carry out () the test session with the test node on said IP connections, and measure () a quality level for each of said IP connections.

Method and apparatus for measuring data transport quality over an internet protocol

A system and method are provided for reviewing and updating a subscriber's telecommunications services, including a Caller ID service, using a graphical user interface via multiple data networks. The method includes presenting service data to the subscriber via the data networks and transmitting a data message from the subscriber to an intelligent peripheral via at least one of the data networks. The data message indicates a subscriber's desired update to a selected telecommunications service. The method also includes converting the data message into a protocol compatible with an integrated service control point. The converted data message is identical to a data message that the intelligent peripheral would create if the subscriber had entered the desired update via an interactive voice response system. The method further includes transmitting the converted data message to the integrated service control point, and updating the selected telecommunications service in accordance with the subscriber's desired update. Thus, the selected telecommunications service is updated substantially contemporaneously with the subscriber requesting the update at the graphical user interface. Moreover, the subscriber retains the ability to update and review service data via an interactive voice response. The method and system also enable the subscriber to view Caller ID information while being located remotely from the destination of the telephone call associated with the caller ID information.
