Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some communications systems, interference may impede signaling between a base station and a target user equipment (UE) such that a base station may identify a donor UE to relay communications to the target UE. The donor UE may receive a coded data packet from the base station, and may identify a radio network temporary identifier (RNTI) scrambling code for the packets addressed to the target UE. In cases where the donor UE identifies that the packet has an RNTI scrambling code associated with the target UE, the donor UE may forward the coded data packet to the target UE base on the RNTI scrambling code. Such early detection of data packets addressed to the target UE may allow for the UE to forward a data packet without fully decoding the packet.

Early detection of forwarding for multi-hop ultra-reliable low latency communications

Aspects of the present disclosure relate to wireless communications, and more particularly, to techniques for use in receiving devices employing at least one iterative process for decoding messages. In certain example aspects, a receiving device may comprise a user equipment (UE) or other like device that may be configured to support device-to-device (D2D) communications, such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications, or the like.

Techniques for use in iteratively processing messages

Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate transmitting beacon symbols of a beacon message such that a sequence of symbols can satisfy a linear constraint over a field where the field elements can be identified with carriers. In this regard, a coding scheme can be applied to a beacon message; the coding scheme can produce a plurality of beacon symbols to transmit on given subcarriers. A receiving device of the beacon symbols can decode a beacon message by receiving less than the total number of symbols in a beacon message and determining the remaining symbol subcarriers based on the linear constraint. Thus, more efficient decoding of beacons is facilitated as well as resolving beacon ambiguity by figuring out which symbols satisfy linear constraints for the symbols, and resolving time and frequency shift by detecting an offset that would result in satisfaction of the linear constraint.

Beacon coding in wireless communications systems

Methods and apparatus for improved beacon signaling in a wireless communication system are described. Information is encoded in the tone position of the beacon tone. The information encoded may include sector type, sector index and slope index, as well as some time index. The information is coded in the tone position so that any few of several beacons can be decoded in order to decode the information. The methods and apparatus described in the invention improve the robustness against frequency selective fading and do not require wireless terminals to establish synchronization for reliable base station detection.

Method and apparatus for signaling beacons in a communication system

Improved ways of communicating assignment signals using flash signaling are described, e.g., for wireless terminals with low SNR, that are more robust against large variation of channel gains due to e.g., frequency selective fading and fast fading in time. Coding and modulation methods and apparatus that have excellent properties against symbol erasures are described. The use of flash signaling provides an improved assignment channel having strong performance on the fading channel without compromising the performance on the AWGN channel. In one exemplary embodiment, the coding and modulation method can tolerate up to 5 erased symbols out of 8 transmitted symbols. One embodiment reduces or minimizes the sector interference on the flash assignment by improving or maximizing orthogonality between different sectors. In addition, one embodiment describes improved ways of swapping flash assignment tone-symbols in the presence other high priority signals, like sector pilots and sector null pilots.

Overhead signaling in a wireless communication system

Methods and apparatus related to efficiently communicating information, such as base station identification information and/or timing information, via beacon signals are described. Base station identification information and/or timing information is communicated via beacon signals. A beacon coding scheme is utilized in which different base station sectors in the communications system are associated with different sub-sets of beacon tones, e.g., a sub-set of 4 beacon tones. Different beacon tone sub-sets have at most 1 tone in common. A base station sector transmitter transmits a sequence of beacon signals, in accordance with a predetermined beacon tone hopping pattern, in a recurring timing structure, each beacon signal including one of the tones from its associated beacon tone subset. The structure of the beacon tone subsets and the hopping pattern facilitates efficient communication of information, efficient recovery of information being communicated and/or a simple implementation decoder by a wireless terminal.

Methods and apparatus for communicating information using beacon signals

A composite signal includes a high power beacon signal and low power corresponding wideband synchronization signal and is communicated over a time interval exceeding a single OFDM transmission time interval. A base station transmits one or more different such composite broadcast signals in a recurring timing structure. Each different potential beacon signal, e.g., a single tone signal, is paired with a unique wideband synchronization signal. A wideband synchronization signal includes at least some predetermined null tones and at least some predetermined non-null tones. For a given wideband synchronization signal, the predetermined null tones carry predetermined modulation symbol values, A wireless terminal receives a composite signal, identifies a beacon, determines a corresponding known wideband synchronization signal, compares received to known wideband synchronization signals, and determines at least one of a timing adjustment, frequency adjustment and channel estimation.
