Systems and techniques are described for monitoring energy use habits of consumers. In some implementations, a method includes obtaining temperature data from a monitored property. An energy model of the monitored property is generated based on the obtained temperature data. The current temperature data is obtained from the monitored property. The current temperature data is provided to the generated energy model to generate a duty-cycle for turning an HVAC system of the monitored property off an on during the on-peak hours. The HVAC system of the monitored property is instructed to cycle off and on during the on-peak hours based on the generated duty-cycle.

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a storage device, for triggering an alarm during a sensor jamming attack. In one aspect, a monitoring system sensor unit is disclosed that includes a sensor, a communication unit configured to communicate with a monitoring system using a range of frequencies, and a jamming detection unit. The jamming detection unit may include a processor and a computer storage media storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations. The operations include detecting a sensor jamming event, selecting a different form of communication other than the range of radio frequencies for the communication unit to communicate with the monitoring system, and providing, to the communication unit, an instruction to communicate with the monitoring system using the form of communication, wherein the communication unit may communicate, to the monitoring system using the form of communication, the sensor data.

System and method for triggering an alarm during a sensor jamming attack

A monitoring system that is configured to monitor a property is disclosed. The monitoring system includes a passive infrared (PIR) sensor configured to generate reference PIR data that represents motion within an area of the property; an auxiliary sensor configured to generate auxiliary sensor data that represents an attribute of the area of the property; and a motion sensor device. The motion sensor device is configured to: obtain the reference PIR data; determine that a first set of motion detection criteria is satisfied by the reference PIR data; in response to determining that the first set of motion detection criteria is satisfied by the reference PIR data, obtain the auxiliary sensor data; obtain a second set of motion detection criteria based on the reference PIR data and the auxiliary sensor data; and determine whether the second set of motion detection criteria is satisfied by additional PIR data.

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for tracking computing enthalpy measurements indicating abnormalities associated with operation of a heating, ventilating, and cooling (HVAC) system. In some implementations, a computer-implemented method includes: obtaining, from one or more sensors associated with the HVAC system, (i) temperature data including a source vent temperature measurement and a return vent temperature of the HVAC system, and (ii) humidity data including a source vent humidity measurement and a return vent humidity measurement of the HVAC system; computing an enthalpy measurement associated with operation of the HVAC system; determining that the computed enthalpy measurement indicates an efficiency issue associated with operation of the HVAC system; and in response to determining that the computed enthalpy measurement indicates the efficiency issue associated with operation of the HVAC system, taking action related to the HVAC system.

A method includes receiving, by a monitoring system that is configured to monitor a property, and from a sensor, sensor data, receiving data indicating an operational state of the HVAC system, determining that the HVAC system is providing air to a smart vent device, determining (i) a particular direction for the smart vent device to direct air flowing from the HVAC system and into the room of the property and (ii) a particular flow rate for the smart vent device to provide air from the HVAC system and into the room of the property, and providing, to the smart vent device, instructions to (i) direct air flowing from the HVAC system and into the room of the property in the particular direction and (ii) adjust the flow rate of air flowing from the HVAC system and into the room of the property according to the particular flow rate.

Systems and techniques are described for using a connected device that measures water usage and controls temperature of a hot water line. In some implementations, a monitoring system monitors a property that includes one or more sensors located throughout the property and generates sensor data. The monitor control unit receives sensor data and based on the sensor data, determines an action that is likely to occur. Based on the action, determine a water temperature. Generate an instruction specifying the water temperature. The monitoring system includes a connected mixing valve that connects to a hot water supply line and a cold water supply line; receives the instruction specifying the water temperature; and, determines a first amount of hot water from the hot water supply line to combine with a second amount of cold water from the cold water supply line to produce water at the water temperature.

Carbon dioxide monitoring, in which carbon dioxide sensor data is processed in combination with additional sensor and automation control data. A system includes a monitoring system that monitors a fixed property and includes a carbon dioxide sensor, one or more additional sensors that are installed at the fixed property and that sense attributes of the fixed property, and one or more automation control components that control one or more appliances located at the fixed property. The system also includes a monitoring application server that receives data communications based on carbon dioxide sensor data, additional sensor data, and automation control data. The monitoring application server integrates the carbon dioxide sensor data with the additional sensor data and the automation control data, analyzes the integrated carbon dioxide sensor data, additional sensor data, and automation control data, and performs an operation related to the fixed property based on the analysis.
