Methods, apparatus and computer programs for controlling the output of a transmission point. A method for controlling the output of a transmission point for a wireless communications network. The method comprises: determining an average output power of the transmission point over a period of time; comparing the average output power to an output power reference value; and allocating data, to be transmitted by the transmission point to one or more wireless devices, to a pool of radio resources. The pool of radio resources is adjusted as a function of the comparison between the average output power and the output power reference value.

Controlling transmitter output in a wireless communications network based on regulatory RF exposure limits

Embodiments include methods of operating a user equipment (UE) in a serving cell provided by a base station in a cellular communications network. These embodiments include establishing a Radio Resource Control (RRC) connection with the base station, such that the UE is operating in an RRC Connected state according to a first value of a parameter (e.g., a time alignment timer value) affecting the UE's uplink synchronization with the serving cell. These embodiments also include initiating a reconfiguration of the RRC connection towards the base station and, in response to initiating the reconfiguration, receiving from the base station a second value of the parameter affecting the UE's uplink synchronization with the serving cell. These embodiments also include operating in an RRC Connected state according to the second value of the parameter. Other embodiments include UEs configured to perform operations corresponding to these methods.

Cellular user equipment and method of operation

Embodiments herein relate to a method, performed by a network node, for handling of specific power reduction for a User Equipment (UE). The network node receives a message from the UE comprising an identification of a specific type of the UE. The network node obtains a reduced power applied by the UE corresponding to the received identification. The network node selects an allocation for transmissions from the UE, based on the reduced power applied by the UE. Embodiments herein further relate to a network node for performing the method for handling of specific power reduction for a UE.

Network node and method for UE specific power handling

A method of operating a base station in a cellular communications network, in which Radio Resource Control (RRC) connected user equipment devices can be kept synchronized with the cell on the uplink or become unsynchronized. The method comprises determining whether a specified condition within a cell served by the base station is fulfilled, and, in response to determining whether the specified condition is fulfilled, determining whether RRC connected user equipment devices should be kept uplink synchronized with the cell, or whether RRC connected user equipment devices should be allowed to become uplink unsynchronized. Signals are transmitted to RRC connected user equipment devices to affect whether or not such devices are kept uplink synchronized with the cell, in response to determining whether RRC connected user equipment devices should be kept uplink synchronized with the cell, or whether RRC connected user equipment devices should be allowed to become unsynchronized on the uplink.

Cellular base station and method of operation

Systems and methods for selectively enabling Robust Header Compression (RoHC) for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls in a cellular communications network are disclosed. In one embodiment, a data radio bearer for a VoIP call is established between a base station and a mobile terminal. During the VoIP call, a radio frequency parameter for the data radio bearer is monitored. When the radio frequency parameter for the data radio bearer satisfies a predefined coverage-based condition, the base station enables RoHC for the VoIP call. In one preferred embodiment, the radio frequency parameter is a Signal-to-Interference-plus-Noise Ratio (SINR) for the data radio bearer for the VoIP call, and the predefined coverage-based condition is a predefined SINR threshold below which the base station enables RoHC. By enabling RoHC in this manner, RoHC resources are selectively made available for those VoIP calls that will benefit most from increased cell coverage provided by RoHC.

Selective robust header compression (RoHC) for a VoIP call in a cellular communications network

It is presented a method for releasing semi-persistent scheduling, SPS, for a wireless device. The method is performed in a network node and comprising the steps of: transmitting an SPS release message to the wireless device to release uplink SPS; starting a timer; when a first condition is true, transmitting a grant for uplink transmission to the wireless device, the first condition being true when the timer expires and/or a scheduling request has been received from the wireless device; receiving a data type indication from the wireless device; and determining that an SPS release message has been correctly received by the wireless device when a scheduling request has been received from the wireless device, the grant has been transmitted and the data type indication indicates only voice over internet protocol, VoIP, data from the wireless device.

Release of semi-persistent scheduling

A network node identifies a fixed periodic pattern to be used for scheduling a half-duplex (HD) user equipment (UE), the fixed periodic pattern defining a sequence of at least one downlink (DL) subframe, then at least one guard period, and then at least one uplink (UL) subframe. The network node then performs DL assignments for the network node according to the fixed periodic pattern and transmits UL grants to the UE according to the fixed periodic pattern.

Scheduling for half-duplex user equipment

A node and method for extending a wake up time of a wireless user equipment (UE) are provided. The node includes a memory. The memory is configured to store data to be transmitted to the UE. The node includes a processor configured to determine if the memory is storing data to be transmitted to the UE, determine if the wake up time of the UE coincides with a periodic subframe, the periodic subframe occurring with a periodicity and cause transmission of a message for a grant to the UE if the determination is made that the memory is storing data to be transmitted to the UE and the wake up time of the UE coincides with the periodic subframe.

System and method for supporting time-sensitive services in a communication network

A method of operation of a base station in a cellular communications network, in which user equipment devices in a cell served by the base station need to be synchronized with the cell on the uplink in order to transmit data, and in which Radio Resource Control, RRC, connected user equipment devices can be kept synchronized with the cell on the uplink or not synchronized. The method comprises making a determination as to whether a specified condition within the cell served by the base station is fulfilled, and, in response to the determination as to whether the specified condition within the cell is fulfilled, determining whether RRC connected user equipment devices should be kept uplink synchronized with the cell, or whether RRC connected user equipment devices should be allowed to become not synchronized on the uplink. Signals are transmitted to user equipment devices to affect whether or not the RRC connected user equipment devices are kept uplink synchronized with the cell, in response to determining whether RRC connected user equipment devices should be kept uplink synchronized with the cell, or whether RRC connected user equipment devices should be allowed to become not synchronized on the uplink.

There is provided a method and corresponding network node for handling TTI bundling in a radio communication system. The method comprises the steps of obtaining (S) frequency-selective channel quality information for at least one User Equipment (UE), and determining (S) whether TTI bundling should be enabled or disabled for the UE(s) based on the frequency-selective channel quality information. By using frequency-selective channel quality information, more accurate decisions of whether TTI bundling should be enabled or disabled can be made, thus leading to more efficient resource utilization.

Triggering of transmission time interval bundling based on frequency selective channel quality information in a radio communication system

A method in a base station for handling sector selection is provided. A wireless terminal is connected to a first sector comprised in a combined cell. When a quality of the communication resources in the first sector is below a first threshold, the base station determines that the first sector is no longer the best sector for the wireless terminal. Then the base station sends an order to the wireless terminal to initiate a random access procedure in the combined cell. The base station then selects a second sector in the combined cell based on measurements of signal strength of random access preambles received from the wireless terminal in each respective sector in the combined cell. The random access preambles are received from the wireless terminal in the initiated random access procedure. The second sector is selected for the wireless terminal to communicate in.

Base station, and method for sector selection

A method and apparatus for determining when to switch between buffer estimation states for a fixed frame rate services session at a terminal. In the event that the state is passive, a network node determines a first time between two received Radio Link Control Service Data Units (RLC SDU). If the first time is lower than a first time threshold, then the state is changed to proactive. When the state is proactive, the network node determines that two consecutive padding transport blocks have been received and further determines that a second time between two padding transport blocks is greater than a second time threshold. If so then the state is changed to passive.

Method and apparatus in a wireless communication system

A method of operating a base station of a radio access network may include transmitting a Medium Access Control (MAC) message from the node of the RAN to a wireless terminal UE. The MAC message may include a Control Element CE defining an assignment of resources for dedicated scheduling requests D-SRs available for the wireless terminal (UE) to transmit dedicated scheduling requests to the node.

A User Equipment (UE) has multiple transceivers, each having a corresponding receiver configured to communicate on respective carriers. The UE monitors a radio access network (RAN) on a serving cell using a first of the receivers, and indicates to the base station that at least one of its receivers will temporary tune-out from the RAN. The base station receives the indication from the UE, and temporarily suspends communications with the UE.
