A display for an electronic device includes a plurality of pixel portions. Each pixel portion includes one or more electrophoretic capsules disposed above an organic light emitting diode layer. A first electrode assembly and a second electrode assembly are operable to control the one or more electrophoretic capsules. A control circuit selectively controls the first electrode assembly to cause operation of the one or more electrophoretic capsules in an optically non-transmissive state and the second electrode assembly to cause operation of the one or more electrophoretic capsules in an optically transmissive state.

Electronic device with hybrid display, and corresponding systems and methods

For adjusting color values in image data for an emissive display, a method receives a frame of image data and adjusts a color value of a first color component by predetermined amount and identifies a white point from the adjusted color value of the first color component for each pixel in the frame of image data. The method remaps, for each pixel in the frame of image data, color values for a second color component and for a third color component based on the white point and controls the emissive display to present the frame of image data using the adjusted color value and the remapped color values. Each pixel of the emissive display includes a first subpixel that emits the first color component, a second subpixel that emits the second color component, and a third subpixel that emits the third color component.

Content adaptive display for emissive displays

A method, system and computer program product applying an application profile to a display configuration of a device, which overrides the default ambient light setting (ALS) data associated with a display. The method includes detecting initiation of an application. The method further includes searching at least one database for an application profile associated with the application. The application profile includes application-specific ALS data, which establishes an application-specific configuration of the display while the application is open on the display. In response to locating the application profile within the at least one database, the application profile is applied to the display, with the application-specific ALS data replacing/overriding the default ALS data.

Applying an application-specific ambient light setting configuration

This document describes techniques and apparatuses for implementing backlight dimming film. These techniques may be performed using a side entry lightguide structure having a receiving side and an output surface. The lightguide structure receives light through the receiving side and redirects the light so that it is output through the output surface. The techniques are also performed relative to a cover screen structure that receives light from the output surface of the lightguide structure and filters the light to display an image. A dimming film is disposed between the output surface of the lightguide structure and the cover screen structure. The dimming film is controlled to block light output from the output surface of the lightguide structure from being received at the cover screen structure.

Backlight dimming film

An electronic device utilizes a method for displaying content on a display of the device during different device operating modes. According to one embodiment, the device (e.g., through its processing subsystem) determines whether it is in an active mode or a sleep mode. If the device is in an active mode, the device illuminates a first portion of the display to display content. On the other hand, if the device is in a sleep mode, the device illuminates a second, substantially lesser portion of the display to display content. In one embodiment, the device display includes a display panel and two disparate backlights positioned behind the display panel. The first backlight is operable to illuminate the first portion of the display panel and the second backlight is operable to illuminate the second portion of the display panel when each backlight is respectively activated by the device's processing subsystem.

Method and apparatus for displaying content on a display of an electronic device during different device operating modes

A method and system for determining a camera-to-display latency of an electronic device () having a camera () and touch-sensitive display () are disclosed. In one example embodiment, the method () includes receiving () first light () at the camera, and essentially simultaneously receiving second light () at a first photosensitive structural portion (). The method () further includes detecting () a first simulated touch input at the display () in response to a first actuation of the first photosensitive structural portion (), receiving third light () at a second photosensitive structural portion (), the third light being generated based at least indirectly upon the received first light (), detecting () a second simulated touch input at the display () as a result of the receiving of the third light (), and determining the camera-to-display latency based at least indirectly upon the touch inputs ().
