A system and method for modeling patient-specific spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is disclosed. The system and method acquire impedance and evoked compound action potential (ECAP) signals from a lead positioned proximate to a spinal cord (SC). The lead includes at least one electrode. The system and method determine a patient-specific anatomical model based on the impedance and ECAP signals, and transform a dorsal column (DC) map template based on a DC boundary of the patient-specific anatomical model. Further, the system and method map the transformed DC map template to the patient-specific anatomical model. The system and method may also include the algorithms to solve extracellular and intracellular domain electrical fields and propagation along neurons. The system and method may also include the user interfaces to collect patient responses and compare with the patient-specific anatomical model as well as using the patient-specific anatomical model for guiding SCS programming.

Spinal cord stimulation guidance system and method of use

The present disclosure provides a grip sensor for quantifying pain experienced by a patient during spinal cord stimulation (SCS). The grip sensor includes an electronics enclosure, an annular outer shell substantially surrounding the electronics enclosure and sized to be held by the patient, a pressure sensor embedded in the outer shell and communicatively coupled to the electronics enclosure, the pressure sensor configured to measure a grip strength of the patient as SCS is applied to the patient, and a plurality of galvanic skin response sensors communicatively coupled to the electronics enclosure and configured to measure an electrical impedance of the skin of the patient as SCS is applied to the patient.

Systems and methods for determining spinal cord stimulation parameters based on patient feedback

In one embodiment, the present disclosure is directed to a method for providing a neural stimulation therapy to treat chronic pain of a patient. The method comprises: recording, using a neural sensing system, neural activity of the patient at one or more sites within the nervous system of the patient related to the chronic pain of the patient, modifying a computational neural modeling system to model the sensed neural activity of the patient; computing a respective neural response of the patient for each of a plurality of different temporal stimulation patterns using the modified computational neural modeling system; selecting, based on the respective neural responses, one of the plurality of temporal stimulation patterns; and programming an implantable stimulation system to provide the selected one of the plurality of temporal stimulation patterns to the patient to treat the chronic pain of the patient.

Systems and methods for predicting beneficial spinal cords stimulation temporal patterns

A computer implemented method and system is provided for managing neural stimulation therapy. The method comprises under control of one or more processors configured with program instructions. The method delivers a series of candidate stimulation waveforms having varied stimulation intensities to at least one electrode located proximate to nervous tissue of interest. A parameter defines the candidate stimulation waveforms is changed to vary the stimulation intensity. The method identifies a first candidate stimulation waveform that induces a paresthesia-abatement effect, while continuing to induce a select analgesic effect. The method further identifies a second candidate stimulation waveform that does not induce the select analgesic effect. The method sets a stimulation therapy based on the first and second candidate stimulation waveforms.

Systems and methods are provided for determining a system response for a neuronal region of interest (ROI). The method comprises positioning an electrode proximate to the neuronal ROI. The electrode is electrically coupled to a neurostimulation (NS) system. The system delivers, from the NS system, a stimulation waveform from the electrode based on NS parameters. The system further programs one or more processors for: measuring an evoked potential waveform resulting from the stimulation waveform; comparing at least one excitation pulse within the stimulation waveform to the evoked potential waveform to obtain a candidate response function; repeating the delivering, measuring and comparing operations to obtain a collection of candidate response functions; and identifying a neuronal system response for the neuronal ROI based on the collection of candidate response functions.

The present disclosure provides systems and methods for correlating measurement in neurostimulation systems. A neurostimulation system includes a first sensor configured to acquire movement measurements for a subject, a second sensor configured to acquire neural measurements for the subject, and a computing device communicatively coupled to the first and second sensors. The computing device is configured to receive a movement signal from the first sensor, and receive a neural signal from the second sensor, wherein one of the movement signal and the neural signal is a trigger signal and the other of the movement signal and the neural signal is a signal of interest. The systems and methods further program the IPG to deliver excitation pulses to the first electrode based on a stimulation level. The excitation pulses are emitted from the first electrode. The systems and methods further position a second electrode proximate to a dorsal root. The second electrode is electrically coupled to the IPG. The systems and methods further measure at the second electrode a first evoked potential waveforms resulting from the excitation pulses.

Systems and methods for recording evoked responses from neurostimulation

Systems and methods to control non-paresthesia stimulation of nerve tissue of a patient are herein disclosed. The systems and methods deliver a non-paresthesia stimulation waveform to at least one electrode proximate to target nerve fibers, and define an analysis window that is positioned to occur at an intermediate point within at least one of a first burst or an inter-burst delay. Additionally, the systems and methods, during the analysis window, measure evoked potential (EP) signals from the target nerve fibers. The systems and methods also analyze the EP signals to obtain activity data for select nerve fiber components, and adjust at least one therapy parameter to change the non-paresthesia stimulation waveform based on the activity data.
