Described is a system for capturing and recovering carbon dioxide (CO) from multiple distinct waste heat sources. The system includes an absorber for extracting COfrom exhaust gas into a solvent stream selective for absorbing COand creating a rich solvent stream. A solvent regenerator converts a first fraction of the rich solvent stream into a lean solvent stream and a crude COvapor. A cross exchanger exchanges heat between lean and rich solvent streams. Several heat exchangers are associated with the solvent regenerator to transfer heat from multiple distinct waste heat sources into a second fraction of the rich solvent stream as well as recover waste heat from the multiple distinct waste heat sources. A compressor converts the crude COvapor into a concentrated pressurized COproduct, and a COstorage tank receives and stores the COproduct.

An exhaust gas carbon dioxide capture and recovery system that may be mounted on a mobile vehicle or vessel. The system may include an exhaust absorber system, a solvent regenerator, a solvent loop, a carbon dioxide compressor, and a carbon dioxide storage tank, among other components. The system may be configured and integrated such that energy in the exhaust may be used to power and drive the carbon dioxide capture while having minimal parasitic effect on the engine.

A method for generating a multi-component surrogate is provided. The method includes determining, based on a detailed hydrocarbon analysis, components of a physical fuel sample, selecting, for a hydrocarbon, chemicals from a list of known chemicals in a chemical property database, chemical property correlation software, or chemical process software package, the hydrocarbon having an equivalent molecular structure as each of the chemicals, dividing a concentration of the hydrocarbon in the physical fuel sample into surrogate concentrations corresponding to the chemicals, and generating the multi-component surrogate based at least on the surrogate concentrations, where each of the chemicals represents the hydrocarbon as a surrogate in the multi-component surrogate, and the multi-component surrogate is used to represent the physical fuel sample in a one-dimensional (1D) hydraulic modeling software to model a direct injection (DI) system.

Process for capturing CO2 from a mobile source using exhaust heat

A method of operating an engine includes igniting a combustible mixture in a combustion chamber of the engine, which produces exhaust gases. The exhaust gases are ejected into an exhaust manifold of the engine to create a primary exhaust stream. A portion of the exhaust gases is separated from the primary exhaust stream to create a secondary exhaust stream. Air and fuel are then mixed with the secondary exhaust stream to form a reformer feed mixture. The reformer feed mixture is reacted in a catalytic reformer to create a reformate exhaust stream, which is then mixed with an intake air stream to create a mixed air stream. The mixed air stream is the fed to the combustion chamber of the engine as the combustible mixture.

Process for improving engine efficiency using a fuel reforming system

A system includes an engine having a main combustion chamber and a prechamber containing a spark plug. The prechamber is in fluid communication with the main combustion chamber through at least one orifice. An engine intake line provides intake air to the engine. An engine exhaust line receives exhaust gases from the engine. An exhaust gas recirculation line transports a portion of the exhaust gases from the engine exhaust line to the engine intake line, forming an exhaust gas recirculation loop through the engine. The system includes a reformer having a reactor containing a catalyst-coated substrate. The reformer generates a gaseous reformate from a fuel. The system includes a prechamber feed line to transport a stream of the gaseous reformate from the reformer to the prechamber.

Method and system for extending dilution limit of a prechamber spark ignition engine

The performance of an automotive gasoline fueled spark-ignited internal combustion engine (ICE) optionally operated with a dedicated exhaust gas recycle system is enhanced by reforming the fuel in the presence of injected water to increase the yield of hydrogen which permits higher compression ratios and suppresses engine knock associated with pre-ignition of the fuel. Reforming can occur (a) in the cylinder with the reaction of a fuel-rich mixture and steam from the water injected into the intake manifold of one or more dedicated exhaust gas recirculation cylinders; (b) in a catalytic reformer located upstream of the engine; (c) in a catalytic reformer located downstream of the engine that receives fuel and the exhaust gas stream from the dedicated exhaust gas recirculation cylinder(s), and returns cooled reformate to the intake manifold; and (d) in a catalytic reformer that receives fuel and the exhaust gas stream from the engine exhaust gas manifold, and delivers reformate to the intake manifold.
