Examples disclosed herein relate to providing a location-based holographic experience. One example provides a head-mounted display device comprising a see-through display, one or more position sensors, a logic subsystem, and a storage subsystem comprising instructions executable by the logic subsystem to obtain data representing a plurality of holographic objects, acquire sensor data via the one or more position sensors to monitor a position of the head-mounted display device along a path of a holographic experience, detect that the position of the head-mounted display device meets a first position-based condition regarding a first holographic object, and display the first holographic object at a corresponding location for the first holographic object.

Location-based holographic experience

Computer systems, methods, and storage media for rendering a holographic object in accordance with a physical relationship between the holographic object and an identified physical object. Virtual properties are assigned to a physical object, and in response to detecting a change to the physical relationship between the holographic object and the physical object, the holographic object is rendered according to a modification defined, at least in part, by the change to the physical relationship and by the properties assigned to the physical object.

Relational rendering of holographic objects

A virtual-reality computing device comprises a pose sensor, a rendering tool, and a display. The pose sensor is configured to measure a current pose of the virtual-reality computing device in a physical space. The rendering tool is configured to receive a holographic animation of a 3D model that includes a sequence of holographic image frames. The rendering tool is also configured to receive a render-baked dynamic lighting animation that includes a sequence of lighting image frames corresponding to the sequence of holographic image frames. The rendering tool also is configured to derive a 2D view of the 3D model with a virtual perspective based on the current pose and texture map a corresponding lighting image frame to the 2D view of the 3D model to generate a rendered image frame of the 2D view with texture-mapped lighting. The display is configured to visually present the rendered image frame.
