A three-dimensional (3D) metal object manufacturing apparatus is configured to eject melted metal drops from an ejector head at different velocities to form different portions of metal object layers with different measurable values of a same physical property. The different velocities are achieved by operating the ejector head with two different electrical voltages. The greater voltage that achieves the higher velocity is about 25% greater than the voltage used to achieve the lesser velocity. By operating the ejector head with the two different voltages different portions of the object can be formed with different physical property characteristics.

Metal drop ejecting three-dimensional (3D) object printer and improved method for operating the printer

A method includes ejecting a plurality of drops of a build material from a nozzle of a 3D printer. The build material cools and solidifies after being ejected to form a 3D object. The method also includes controlling an oxidation of the drops, the 3D object or both to create different oxidation levels in first and second portions of the 3D object.

Atmosphere and part formation in a liquid metal drop-on-demand printer

A three-dimensional (3D) printer includes an ejector and a heating element configured to heat a solid printing material in the ejector, thereby causing the solid printing material to change to a liquid printing material within the ejector. The 3D printer also includes a coil wrapped at least partially around the ejector. The 3D printer also includes a power source configured to supply one or more pulses of power to the coil, which cause one or more drops of the liquid printing material to flow out of the ejector through a nozzle of the ejector. The 3D printer also includes a gas-controlling device configured to control a gas in the 3D printer.

Printing device and method of using the same

A system and method are provided for implementing a process by which printed rolls of substrate material web have additional material layers interleaved between the rolled material web layers to substantially eliminate back transfer or roll offset of printed images on the back sides of the rolled material substrates. In a process for pre-printing thermoforming grade plastic materials to produce rolls of substrate material for use in a thermoforming process, ink compositions, particularly adapted for the thermoforming process, are deposited on substantially continuous webs of substrate material. The webs of substrate material are then re-rolled with separate layers of low surface energy substrate material interleaved between the layers of the printed substrate material in order to substantially eliminate imaging defects produced by back transfer of printed images on to the backs of layers of the printed substrate material stored in rolls.

Systems and methods for interleaving material in printed rolled substrate materials to prevent offset

A method for applying flame treatments to a print surface on an object in an inkjet printer includes activating a hydrogen torch within the inkjet printer to generate a flame through a nozzle of the hydrogen torch and operating an actuator to move at least one of the print surface or the nozzle in a predetermined direction to apply the flame from the nozzle to the print surface. The method further includes adjusting a rate of fuel flow to the nozzle of the hydrogen torch to change a thermal output level of the flame with reference to a change in distance between the nozzle of the hydrogen torch and the print surface during the operating of the actuator.

System and method for flame treatment of print surfaces in inkjet printers

A process and device for removing a solid ink mask printed onto a substrate is disclosed. The substrate is bent around a bar set perpendicular to the substrate, causing the mask to flake off the substrate. The process permits fast removal of solid ink masks.

A drum maintenance system for use in an imaging device includes a reservoir having a supply of release agent. An applicator is configured to receive release agent from the reservoir and to apply the release agent to an imaging surface of an imaging device. A metering blade is positioned to meter the release agent on the imaging surface applied by the applicator. The metering blade is arranged in doctor mode with respect to the imaging surface and includes a tip positioned adjacent the imaging surface. The tip has a square portion positioned proximate the imaging surface and a beveled portion opposite the imaging surface.

A drum maintenance system for use in an imaging device includes a reservoir having a supply of release agent, and an applicator configured to receive release agent from the reservoir and to apply the release agent to an intermediate imaging surface of an imaging device. Drum maintenance system for reducing duplex dropout

A drum assembly in a printing machine comprises a rotating drum having a surface and an applicator assembly for applying oil onto the surface. The applicator assembly includes a liquid supply containing a supply of oil, a distributor connected to the liquid supply for distributing the oil, and an applicator having an area for receiving oil from the distributor and an application edge. The distributor and the applicator are configured so that oil distributed on the area of the applicator forms a meniscus at the application edge. The application edge is positioned closely adjacent but not in contact with the surface of the drum at a distance sufficiently close to the surface so that the surface contacts the meniscus to withdraw oil from the applicator onto the surface.

Liquid layer applicator assembly

A release agent applicator applies release agent to an imaging drum and absorbs release agent metered from the drum to extend the operational life of an image drum maintenance unit. The applicator includes a reservoir for storing release agent, the reservoir having a plurality of perforations for enabling release agent to seep from the reservoir, a containment membrane for wicking release agent from the perforations of the reservoir, and a delivery layer for delivering release agent from the containment membrane to an imaging drum, the delivery layer having pores in a range of about 50 &#x3bc;m to about 200 &#x3bc;m.

A maintenance system and method for maintaining an imaging member of an imaging device includes a pre-cleaning device to clean the imaging member; an applicator to apply release agent to the imaging member; a metering device to meter release agent on the imaging member; a reservoir to remotely store release agent; and a pump to supply the applicator with release agent from the reservoir. The saturation level of the applicator is monitored and maintained within a predetermined range. The applicator, pre-cleaning device and metering device may be independently actuated to engage the imaging member. Release agent collected by the pre-cleaning device and/or metering device may be recycled. Debris collected by the pre-cleaning device and/or metering device may be stored and/or removed.

Drum maintenance system for an imaging device and method and system for maintaining an imaging device

A method of removing media lateral DC position errors in a long paper path using closed loop correction is disclosed. The amount of lateral DC media shift error generated (or the lateral DC correction required) in the paper path is sensed by a CCD or full width array sensor located in the downstream paper path. In the closed loop, this information is used to energize a motorized actuator in the upstream paper path to correct for lateral DC errors in the media path. Thus, the paper is delivered to the downstream media path within specifications.
