The present invention provides for systems and methods for automated quantification of individual compounds in a mixture. The invention is generally concerned with quantitative analysis of solid, liquid, or gas samples and relies on a separation instrument and on a mass detector. The separation instrument provide means to separate the individual compounds typically according to certain physicochemical property, and the mass detector provides means to determine the amount or concentration of an arbitrary compound using an instrument-specific calibration curve. The present invention provides automated capability to analyze such mixtures without user intervention by varying pre-determined control parameters on one or more of the instruments so as to achieve a high degree of analytical resolution of some or all of the individual compounds in the mixture.

Method for quantitative analysis of mixtures of compounds

A method of screening solution conditions suitable for the crystallization of macromolecules with a picogram to a microgram of protein using picoliter or nanoliter volumes is provided. A preferred method comprises preparing a plurality of recipe solutions in milliliter volumes, aspirating protein and recipe solutions, respectively, from a plurality of wells, and dispensing the protein and recipe solutions into a plurality of wells, covering the combined protein and recipe solutions with oil, and maintaining the solution wells until crystallization or precipitation occur therein.

Method for preparation of microarrays for screening of crystal growth conditions

A device for producing microscopic arrays of molecules is provided, the device comprising a plurality of inverted cavities containing solutions, a substrate adapted to be received by the cavities for extracting the solutions, a substrate for depositing the extracted solutions onto a location on a matrix; and a quality control monitoring system for verifying that the solutions are deposited onto the location on the matrix. A process for producing an array of molecules also is provided, the process comprising providing a plurality of inverted solution cavities, wherein each cavity contains a solution; extracting each solution from its respective inverted cavity; loading each solution at a predetermined position in an array; and verifying that each solution is loaded onto its respective position in the array.

Device for producing microscopic arrays of molecules, a method for producing microscopic arrays of molecules

A biochip scanner device used to detect and acquire fluorescence signal data from biological microchips or biochips and method of use are provided. The biochip scanner device includes a laser for emitting a laser beam. A modulator, such as an optical chopper modulates the laser beam. A scanning head receives the modulated laser beam and a scanning mechanics coupled to the scanning head moves the scanning head relative to the biochip. An optical fiber delivers the modulated laser beam to the scanning head. The scanning head collects the fluorescence light from the biochip, launches it into the same optical fiber, which delivers the fluorescence into a photodetector, such as a photodiode. The biochip scanner device is used in a row scanning method to scan selected rows of the biochip with the laser beam size matching the size of the immobilization site.
