Embodiments disclosed herein provide systems, methods, and computer readable media to handle unsuccessful movements of removable storage media in an automated removable media system. In a particular embodiment, a method provides receiving one or more user provided parameters that indicate one or more types of unsuccessful media move operations that should be reported as successful. The method further provides receiving a first request to move a first item of removable storage media from a first position in the automated removable media system to a second position in the automated removable media system and initiating a first move operation of the first item from the first position to the second position by at least one changer device. The method then provides determining that the first move operation resulted in one of the one or more types of unsuccessful media move operations and indicating that the first move operation was successful in response to the first request.

Unsuccessful storage media movement handling in automated removable storage media environments

A retrieval assembly () for moving storage media () within a media library (), the media library () including a rack assembly () having a first rack (A) and a spaced apart second rack (B), comprises a picker system (), an assembly base (), a first mover (A), a second mover (B), and a control system (). The picker system () selectively engages the storage media (). The assembly base () supports the picker system (). The first mover (A) is secured to the assembly base (), and selectively moves along the first rack (A). The second mover (B) is also secured to the assembly base (), and selectively moves along the second rack (B). The second mover (B) is spaced apart from the first mover (A). The control system () controls independent movement of the first mover (A) and the second mover (B) to position the assembly base () relative to the storage media ().

Media library including storage media retrieval assembly

A storage media retrieval assembly () for moving storage media () within a media library () including a library housing (), comprises a picker system (), an assembly base (), and a first sensor (A). The picker system () selectively engages the storage media (). The assembly base () supports the picker system (). The assembly base () is movable relative to the library housing (). The first sensor (A) senses if the assembly base () is level relative to the library housing (). Additionally, the retrieval assembly () can further comprise a mover () that is secured to the assembly base (), the mover () selectively moving the assembly base () relative to the library housing (). In alternative embodiments, the first sensor (A) or a second sensor (A) can be a home sensor that senses a home position of the mover () relative to the library housing ().

A method for mover transition in an open systems based media library () for use with a host () that relays command requests comprises the steps of retaining a storage medium (); selectively moving the storage medium () within the media library () with a first media mover (); and when the first media mover () has a status of unavailable due to mover transition, indicating to the host () with a control system () that the first media mover () is not ready to perform a motion operation, and is in the process of becoming ready. Additionally, the host () continues to relay command requests to the media library () when the first media mover () has the status of unavailable, and the control system () performs any subsequent command requests relayed by the host () when the first media mover () subsequently has the status of available.
