A user equipment UE determines that a neighbor cell is higher priority than a serving cell, measures neighbor cell signal strength in n&#x3e;1 iterations, and analyzes them for reselecting from the serving cell to the neighbor cell. Each measurement iteration is spaced from one another by a time interval (e.g., 1 DRX) that is specific for the neighbor cell being higher priority. In various embodiments, the UE measures while in a Cell-PCH, URA-PCH or idle state/mode and the first iteration is taken at the first available measurement opportunity after transitioning to that state/mode. The UE reselects to the neighbor cell based on the analyzed signal strengths; in one embodiment the decision to reselect is without regard to signal quality of the serving cell; and in another the decision is without regard to whether a reselection condition remains satisfied for a specified time period T.

Fast reselection between different radio access technology networks

Based on the determined signal strength of a serving cell, a choice is made whether to utilize a cell-FACH measurement occasion for a lower priority neighbor cell search or for a higher priority neighbor cell search. The lower priority search is for maintaining wireless connectivity and the higher priority search is for accessing enhanced wireless service. In specific examples the search may be inter-frequency for frequency layers with higher or lower priority than a serving layer of the serving cell, or the search may be inter-RAT such as the lower priority GERAN search and a higher priority E-UTRAN search if the serving cell is WCDMA. In one example there are two thresholds for the signal strength, and if higher than both then the measurement occasion is used for an E-UTRAN search regardless of whether GERAN or inter-frequency neighbor cells have been configured for the UE.

Priority measurement rules for channel measurement occasions

A wireless device has a plurality of radio systems. The current priority of each of the radio systems is determined. An upper bound for the transmit power of each of the radio systems is set in dependence on at least the current priorities of the radio systems and a current maximum permitted transmit power of the wireless device. The upper bounds for the transmit power of each of the radio systems are variable over time and are set such that the sum of the upper bounds does not exceed the current maximum permitted transmit power of the wireless device. For each of the radio systems, the transmit power of that radio system is limited such that the respective upper bound for the transmit power for that radio system is not exceeded.

Method, apparatus and computer program for limiting the total transmit power of a wireless device

A wireless device has a first SIM and a second SIM. The first SIM and the second SIM share a common radio system. A processing system determines whether to allocate use of the radio system to the second SIM for a time period that occurs when the first SIM is in an active connected mode using the common radio system in order to be able to at least one of transmit data and receive data. The processing system allocates or denies use of the radio system to the second SIM accordingly.

In one exemplary embodiment of the invention, a method includes: detecting a local network access node; generating a measurement report based on the detected local network access node, where the measurement report is for transmission to a serving network access node; and in response to successfully reading system information for the detected local network access node, including in the generated measurement report information that uniquely identifies the detected local network access node.

Reporting and use of user equipment measurement event confidence level

A modem is provided for a wireless device that is capable of providing service for at least two SIMs. The modem has at least a first set of modem components and a second set of modem components. The modem selectively reconfigures the arrangement of the plural sets of modem components. In a first configuration, the first set of modem components provides wireless connection service for a first SIM of the wireless device and the second set of modem components provides wireless connection service for a second SIM of the wireless device. This allows active wireless connections to be made on behalf of both SIMs simultaneously by the sets of modem components. In a second configuration, the first set of modem components and the second set of modem components provide wireless connection service for the first SIM.

Modem and method of operating a wireless device

A wireless device has at least a first modem and a second modem and at least a first SIM and a second SIM. The first modem supports a different level of service than the second modem. A processing system of the wireless device selectively reconfigures the connection of the first modem and the second modem to the SIMs. In a first mapping configuration, the first SIM is connected to the first modem and the second SIM is connected to the second modem. In a second mapping configuration, the second SIM is disconnected from the second modem, and the first SIM is disconnected from the first modem and is connected to the second modem thereby to obtain a different level of service for the first SIM than in the first mapping configuration.

An apparatus for providing ciphering problem detection may include a processor. The processor may be configured to receive an unacknowledged mode message, initiate operation of a timer based on receipt of the unacknowledged mode message, re-initiate timer operation in response to each subsequent unacknowledged mode message received prior to expiration of the timer, record a timer expiry event in response to the timer expiring prior to receipt of a subsequent unacknowledged mode message, and indicate a data reception error in response to receipt of the subsequent unacknowledged mode message after recordation of the timer expiry event.
