Based upon analyzing the detected burst patterns from the other sensors, a first burst pattern is selectively altered to transmit according to a single communication format, the single format being for a single vehicle manufacturer.

A wheel parameter resolving system, apparatus and method are disclosed and described. The wheel parameter resolving system comprises a wheel unit configured to sense radial acceleration in a wheel, the wheel comprising a rim and a tire, the rim having a diameter, and a transmitter configured to transmit a transmit signal indicative of sensed radial acceleration, a controller configured to resolve a rotation parameter indicative of the rim diameter in response to the sensed radial acceleration, and a receiver configured to receive a receive signal based on a transmit signal indicative of sensed radial acceleration, the receiver communicatively coupled to the controller. Resolving the rotation parameter comprises calculating the rotation parameter based on the sensed radial acceleration and a predetermined roll parameter.

Method, apparatus and system for automatic detection of rim diameter

In a method for determining identifiers of wheel units and positions relative to the vehicle of the wheels on which the wheel units are fitted, the vehicle is equipped with a speed sensor for each wheel and elements for transmitting at a predetermined angular position of the corresponding wheel about its axis a message including the identifier of the wheel unit. A central processing unit receives the message and information from the speed sensors. The method includes a) counting, for each identifier, of a number 'nt' of receptions of the identifier, b) statistical processing of the numbers 'nt' to determine candidate identifiers of a wheel unit of the vehicle, until the number of candidate identifiers at least equals the number of wheels, and c) determining that a candidate identifier is the identifier of a wheel unit if the candidate identifier meets a predetermined criterion.

Method and device for monitoring data relating to the tires of a vehicle

An altitude of the vehicle from an external electronic source and an external temperature is received from a temperature sensor are received. An external relative humidity is determined. Based upon the altitude, the temperature, and the external relative humidity, an estimated barometric pressure is determined. An air pressure of a tire is received. An adjustment is made to the received pressure to obtain a corrected pressure. The amount of adjustment is based upon the estimated barometric pressure and the adjustment is applied to the air pressure to obtain a corrected tire pressure. An evaluation is made of the corrected tire pressure to determine when an alert should be presented to a user. When the alert is determined, the alert to the user is presented to the user.

Apparatus and method for compensating for atmospheric pressure in a TPMS system

A method locates an installation position of vehicles wheels in a motor vehicle having at least one vehicle wheel containing a wheel electronics unit. The method includes: determining from the wheel electronics unit a first rotational angle position of the vehicle wheel associated with the wheel electronics unit; transmitting a transmission signal with a first piece of rotational angle information dependent on the determined first rotational angle position; determining from the vehicle second rotational angle positions of the vehicle wheels, and depending thereon, providing second rotational angle information. The first rotational angle information is compared with the second rotational angle information. The installation position of the vehicle wheel associated with the wheel electronics unit is determined depending on the comparison. A device is provided for performing the method.

Method and device for locating the installation position of vehicle wheels in a motor vehicle

A disclosed system for monitoring and locating a position of a tire pressure monitoring device within a tire includes a controller configured to detect a first transmission from a first sensor installed within a first wheel and a second transmission from a second sensor installed within a second wheel coupled to the first wheel. The controller and system utilizes a relative angular position corresponding to receipt of the transmissions to identify a lead and trailing tire pressure monitoring device. The controller is then enabled to correlate the signals with a known sequence of sensors to determine within which of the coupled tire assembly includes which tire pressure monitoring device.

A method, a sensor, a detector and a system are provided for locating at least one wheel on a vehicle. A signal is received from a first sensor mounted on the wheel, the signal providing a position of the wheel. Additionally, a measurement value is received from a second sensor that measures the angular position of a wheel and that is associated with a specific position of the vehicle. When the phase position of the first signal stays within a predefined tolerance range relative to the measured value within a specific observation period, the first sensor can be associated with the second sensor.

A method and a measuring system determine a wheel load. These involve measuring a deformation of a tire and using a set of equations and equation parameters to calculate from the deformation the wheel load acting on the tire. In addition, a wheel load or a variable dependent on the load, which is used to calculate the wheel load, is received from an external system. Finally, the two wheel loads determined in different ways are compared, and the equations and/or equation parameters are adapted on the basis of the comparison.

A tire monitoring system in or for a vehicle for determining tire-specific parameters has a distributed bus architecture. At least one intelligent receiving device is configured to receive transmit signals of a wheel electronic system. The receiving device has a signal processing device that carries out an evaluation of the received transmit signals and/or an evaluation of received signals of another subscriber of the bus architecture. The invention also relates to methods for operating the intelligent receiving devices of a distributed bus architecture of the novel tire monitoring or tire pressure system.
