A method, system, network and gateway of deciding a policy for controlling communications in a communication system are disclosed. The method comprises determining the type of an access network associated with communications via a gateway. In a further step, a policy to apply to communications via the gateway is decided based on information regarding the type of the access network.

Control decisions in a communication system

A frequency setting unit for a radio telecommunications network comprising a first, reference base station transmitting signals at a first frequency, and a second base station transmitting at a second frequency; the frequency control unit comprising: a radio receiver for receiving signals from the first base station; analysis apparatus for analysing the received signals to determine the first frequency; and feedback apparatus responsive to the decoding apparatus and coupled to the second base station for adjusting the second frequency with the aim of establishing a desired relationship between the second frequency and the first frequency.

Network frequency setting

The invention relates to a method for performing frequency synchronization of a base station, and to a network part. In the method, the following operations are performed: maintaining a reference clock in a network element of the cellular radio network; generating a time stamp signal in the reference clock; transferring the time stamp signal from the network element to the base station over an asynchronous data transmission connection; calculating on the basis of the transferred time stamp signal how much the time by the local clock at the base station deviates from the time by the reference clock; generating a speed correction factor for the local clock on the basis of at least one calculated deviation; correcting the running of the local clock with the speed correction factor; and generating the frequencies needed at the base station by using the local clock corrected with the speed correction factor.

A method for operating a radio telecommunications system comprising a mobile station and one or more cell site units capable of communicating by radio with the mobile station on at least two communication channels; the method comprising: the mobile station receiving signals on each of the communication channels; and the mobile station determining an estimate of the level of interference with signals on each of the communication channels.

Method for quality measurement in a mobile telecommunications system

Method of synchronization of a base station network

A method for a radio channel allocation for telecommunication networks, comprising fixed transceivers (BTS) and fixed or mobile radio stations (MS). The method comprises a step of performing channel allocation for a particular radio connection to a radio station based upon signal to interference estimates for the radio station. A system and a base station controller are also disclosed.
