Methods and systems consistent with the present invention can be used to assemble composite rotatable-element components and can be used to form a laminate substrate system, and use a plurality of rotatable-element components or rotatable-element component material of two classes. Each class is defined by a common response or responses to incident electromagnetic radiation of interest. The method for assembling a composite rotatable-element component comprises: dispersing a plurality of rotatable-element components of a first class to first preferred positions on a first carrier; dispersing a plurality of rotatable-element components of a second class to second preferred positions on a second carrier; performing a first manipulation of the first carrier and the second carrier such that one of the plurality of rotatable-element components of a first class and one of the plurality of rotatable-element components of a second class touch at a first contact point; and performing a second manipulation of the rotatable-element components that touch such that they bond to form a composite rotatable-element component. The method for assembling a laminate substrate further comprises: performing a third manipulation of the first carrier and the second carrier such that they touch at a set of second contact points; and performing a fourth manipulation of the first carrier and the second carrier such that they bond to form the laminate substrate.

A system and method for receiving, analyzing, and managing key information extracted from input documents in multiple document genres. A document &ldquo;genre&rdquo; is the social environment that defines the document's expected structure and content. Information is extracted from the input documents based on their genre, and is synthesized into a distributed genre document, or database, representing all extracted information from all input documents. An output document having a selected genre is created by assembling information from the database consistent with the selected genre.

Dynamic content database for multiple document genres

A kit comprising rotating element sheet material, a highlighting implement, and an erasing implement, a binder, and a method of use. The rotating element sheet material comprises a plurality of first rotatable elements and a plurality of second rotatable elements disposed in a substrate. Each first rotatable element in the plurality has a first collection of responses to incident electromagnetic radiation of interest. One response in the first collection renders the first rotatable element transparent-clear to incident electromagnetic energy of interest, and a second response renders the first rotatable element opaque to incident electromagnetic energy of interest. The first rotatable element also exhibits a first work function. Likewise, each second rotatable element has a second collection of responses to incident electromagnetic radiation of interest. A first response in the second collection renders the second rotatable element transparent-clear to the incident electromagnetic energy of interest. A second response renders the second rotatable element transparent-colored to the incident electromagnetic energy of interest. The second rotatable elements also exhibit a second work function that is less than the first work function. The addressing implement introduces a vector field in a first direction in the substrate where the vector field has a magnitude greater than the second work function and less than the first work function. In addition, the erasing implement introduces a vector field in a second direction in the substrate where the vector field has a magnitude greater than the second work function and less than the first work function. The binder is configured to accommodate the rotating element sheet material, the highlighting implement, and the erasing implement.

Method for rotatable element assembly

A bistable display device that is powered only by ambient energy. Ambient energy is collected by an ambient energy receiver which converts the ambient energy into an operating signal and provides the operating signal to a controller. The controller drives the display device based on the operating signal. A user can create a custom display by fixing customizable patterned electrodes to the display. A display controller uses a self-starting oscillator. The oscillator outputs a clock input signal wave to a ripple counter and a voltage signal to a voltage doubler. The voltage doubler outputs a stored charge signal to a transformer concurrently with a clock pulse that is output by the ripple counter to change a state of the voltage output from the transformer to conductive electrodes within or on the display. The voltage output from the transformers applies an electric field across the display in the portions of the display covered by the conductors to switch the image on the display. As the display is bistable, if the ambient energy receiver and controller are detached from the display or there is an insufficient amount of ambient energy, the image on the display will stop switching, but will not fade.

Selected regions of an electronically modifiable display are fixed while other regions are left electronically modifiable. The selected regions are fixed by various methods including subjecting the selected regions to heat, light or pressure. In some embodiments, the fixed regions are reversibly fixed so that changes can be made to the fixed regions.

A system and method for extracting key information from digitized audio messages, including telephone voice messages. Information, such as a telephone number and the name of the caller, is derived and extracted from a voice message and used to establish links to the information within the message. The telephone number and name of the caller can then be replayed without the need to replay the entire voice message. The telephone number and name of the caller can also be used as indices into an information database.

System and method for extracting data from audio messages

A method and apparatus for determining the location of an object. An object to be located can be provided with an object locator that includes a display. When the object locator receives a signal indicating that the object associated with the object locator is to be located, the display changes display state to provide a visual indication that the signal has been received. The object locator can be ambient energy-powered, and the display can be a bistable display, such as a rotating element display device.

Method and apparatus for visually determining object location

Several variations in full-color additive gyricons are shown.
