The invention relates to the use of graft polymers obtained by polymerization in two stages. In a first stage, at least one graft basis is produced by radically polymerizing a monomer composition A) containing 0 to 40 percent by weight of one or several ethylenically unsaturated ester compounds of formula (I), wherein R represents hydrogen or methyl, Rrepresents a linear or branched alkyl radical comprising 1 to 5 carbon atoms, Rand Rindependently represent hydrogen or a group of formula &#x2014;COOR', wherein R&#x2032; represents hydrogen or an alkyl group comprising 1 to 5 carbon atoms, 60 to 100 percent by weight of one or several ethylenically unsaturated ester compounds of formula (II), wherein R represents hydrogen or methyl, Rrepresents a linear or branched alkyl radical comprising 6 to 40 carbon atoms, Rand Rindependently represent hydrogen or a group of formula &#x2014;COOR&#x2032;, wherein R&#x2032; represents hydrogen or an alkyl group comprising 6 to 40 carbon atoms, and 0 to 40 percent by weight of comonomers, the percentages being relative to the weight of monomer composition A). In a second stage, a monomer composition B) containing 20 to 100 percent by weight of at least one monomer that comprises at least one nitrogen-containing group is grafted onto the graft basis in order to reduce wear in lubricant oil compositions. Said graft polymer comprises a maximum of 200 ppm of sulfur while the weight ratio between monomer composition A) and monomer composition B) ranges between 99.7:0.3 and 80:20.

Use of graft polymers

The invention relates to a lubricating oil composition with good frictional properties, the composition having a lubricating oil and at least one additive having friction-reducing properties. The additive with friction-reducing properties is a block copolymer having hydrophobic segments P and polar segments D. The hydrophobic segments are obtained by polymerization of monomer compositions having a) between 0 and 40 wt. %, in relation to the weight of the monomer compositions for producing the hydrophobic segments, of at least one ethylenically unsaturated ester compound of formula (I), in which R represents hydrogen or methyl, Rrepresents a linear or branched alkyl radical having between 1 and 5 carbon atoms, and Rand Rindependently represent hydrogen or a group of formula &#x2014;COOR', in which R&#x2032; represents hydrogen or an alkyl group having between 1 and 5 carbon atoms.

Lubricating oil composition with good frictional properties

The invention relates to engine oil compositions with reduced deposit-formation tendency which contain between 0.05 and 10% by weight, in relation to the total weight of the engine oil composition, of an alkyl alkoxylate of formula (I), in which R 1 , R 2 and R 3 independently are hydrogen or a hydrocarbon rest with up to 40 carbon atoms; R 4 is hydrogen, a methyl or ethyl rest; L is a linking group; n is a whole number between 4 and 40; A is an alkoxy group with between 2 and 25 recurring units derived from ethylene oxide, propylene oxide and/or butylene oxide and comprises homopolymers and statistical copolymers of at least two of the above compounds; and z is 1 or 2.
