Embodiments herein relate to hearing device systems that can utilize proxy devices to convey emergency communications. In an embodiment, the system operates in a first communication mode and a second communication mode. The first communication mode can include the hearing device being paired to a wireless communication enabled device for conveying data to a non-local network as initiated by the hearing device. The second communication mode can include the hearing device accessory being paired to the wireless communication enabled device for conveying data to the non-local network as initiated by the hearing device. The system can enter the second communication mode when the hearing device cannot communicate with the wireless communication enabled device. The hearing device accessory uses a hardware address of the hearing device to communicate with the wireless communication enabled device as if it was paired thereto. Other embodiments are also included herein.

Hearing devices using proxy devices for emergency communication

A system for communication between one or more remotely controllable devices and a hearing assistance device includes a gateway device. The hearing assistance device detects voice commands issued by its wearer. The gateway device wirelessly communicates with the hearing assistance device, produces one or more control signals based on the voice commands, and routes the one or more control signals to one or more devices selected from the one or more remotely controllable devices according to the voice command.

Method and apparatus for using hearing assistance device as voice controller

A hearing aid may utilize a companion microphone, separate from the hearing aid itself, for improving the understanding of speech spoken by a particular person or produced by a particular sound source. The companion microphone is a battery-powered hearing aid accessory device that picks up ambient sound and transmits corresponding radio signals to the hearing aid. Described herein are schemes help to preserve battery life in a companion microphone by using adaptive radio transmission power control.

Wireless electronic device with orientation-based power control

Disclosed in some examples are methods, systems, apparatus, and machine readable mediums which mitigate multipath fading and extend the robustness and the useable range of the wireless link between a streaming device and a hearing assistance device. In some examples, this may be accomplished by utilizing redundant wireless sources of the streaming data&#x2014;that is, multiple copies of the streaming information may be sent to the hearing assistance devices. To prevent interference, at least one transmission parameter may be varied between the transmissions (e.g., frequency, channel, time, coding, or the like).
