An arterial blood module () that is removably connectable to an arterial blood collection element () is disclosed. The arterial blood module includes a housing (), a needle (), a cap () removably securable over the needle, a mixing chamber (), and a safety shield () engaged with a portion of the housing and transitionable from a first shield position in which a portion of the needle is exposed to a second shield position in which the needle is shielded by a portion of the safety shield. In one embodiment, the present disclosure includes an arterial blood collection system () that includes an arterial blood collection element () defining a collection chamber () and an arterial blood module () removably connectable to a portion of the arterial blood collection element.

Arterial blood gas collection system

A biological fluid collection device () that produces a stabilized biological sample with head-to-tail uniformity through the capturing of a high concentration front and subsequent redistribution of the high concentration front throughout a biological fluid is disclosed. The biological fluid collection device includes an inline mixer () used for head-to-tail mixing of a concentrated flow front. The mixing is achieved via a two-stage process. First, a front fraction of the flow is captured within a centered mixing chamber () via capillary assisted flow action. Second, the captured front volume is then slowly released throughout a small exit hole () and recombined with the rest of the flow volume that was diverted around the centered mixer chamber.

Biological fluid collection device

A biological liquid collection device designed to draw blood using an 'atmospheric-balanced vacuum' to ensure the blood is exposed to the sample atmospheric partial pressure oxygen and partial pressure carbon dioxide levels as found in standard arterial blood gas syringes, resulting in blood gas sample stabilization during collection and a superior vacuum shelf-life by reducing the gas permeation rate through the plastic tube. The biological liquid collection device comprises a collection module for receiving a biological liquid sample, an evacuated container having an open end and a closed end wherein the evacuated container contains the collection module therein, and a closure for closing the open end of the evacuated container. The evacuated container comprises a gas composition that is substantially equal to the gas composition of the atmosphere outside of the evacuated container. A method for forming the atmospherically balanced vacuum collection device is also provided.

Atmospheric-balanced vacuum for blood gas sample stabilization with an evacuated container

A specimen mixing and transfer device adapted to receive a sample is disclosed. The specimen mixing and transfer device includes a housing, a material including pores that is disposed within the housing, and a dry anticoagulant powder within the pores of the material. In one embodiment, the material is a sponge material. In other embodiments, the material is an open cell foam. In one embodiment, the material is treated with an anticoagulant to form a dry anticoagulant powder finely distributed throughout the pores of the material. A blood sample may be received within the specimen mixing and transfer device. The blood sample is exposed to and mixes with the anticoagulant powder while passing through the material.

A system and process are provided for the disinfection of sewage sludge or solids without the addition of chemicals such as chlorine etc. or/and reverse osmosis. The treated sludge or solids can be deposited on landfills or used as fertilizer.

The device and process is designed to treat sewage, food processing and other biologically contaminated wastewater without the addition of any chemical or physical agitation. It consists of a series of chambers in specific arrangement to achieve the required nutrient removal and disinfection which kills any bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites. The treated water can be safely discharged, injected into the groundwater or used for irrigation.

Device and process to treat and disinfect sewage, food processing wastewater and other biologically contaminated water

The present invention provides compositions and a method to remove a plurality of radioactive isotopes and/or heavy metals simultaneously from water or wastewater. The compositions comprise lattice clays; flocculants; a neutron absorbent; catalysts; and a setter. The selected compositions is entered into a vessel and agitated with the water to produce a sludge containing the contaminants.

Compositions to remove radioactive isotopes and heavy metals from wastewater

Treatment compositions and a method are provided for the removal of a plurality of heavy metals and radioactive isotopes from wastewater. The treatment compositions comprise an alkali; adsorbents, such as montmorillonite and illite clays; catalysts, such as polyelectrolytes and sodium carbonate; one or more flocculants, such as a metal salt and calcium hydroxide; zirconium as a chelating and complexing agent; and boron as a neutron absorbent. The selected composition is introduced into and mixed with the wastewater, which is then filtered to produce a sludge containing the contaminants.

Compositions to remove heavy metals and radioactive isotopes from

An apparatus for separating and recovering effluent gases from a furnace includes a pressure vessel for containing the gases. This vessel has a fluid input for receiving the gases and a fluid output for selectively removing the gases when they are separated. A condenser is provided to transform and maintain the lowest vapor pressure gas as a liquid so that it accumulates as a liquid at the bottom of the vessel. The remaining non-condensed effluent gases accumulate in strata above the liquid. Apparatus is provided to selectively remove the liquid and at least one of the remaining non-condensed gases from the vessel through the fluid output. Also set forth is a method for recovering effluent gases from a furnace including the steps of adding the gases to a pressure vessel, altering the density of the gases so that the lowest vapor pressure gas condenses into a liquid and the non-condensed gases stratify above the liquid. Then the liquid is removed from vessel and optionally expanded to cool the vessel. Finally, at least one stratified non-condensed gas is selectively removed from the vessel.

Emissionless furnace boiler system

An emissionless furnace boiler and effluent gas recovery system includes a pressure vessel having a fluid input and fluid output. The system is capable of maintaining an entropy characteristic equal to at least the condensing pressure of the lowest entropy gas of the gases constituting a processed effluent gas discharge. There is also provided a hollow, annular jacket having a surface in thermal communication with the pressure vessel, the jacket having an axis in substantial alignment with the gravity vector and the jacket including a fluid input and fluid output. The system also includes a fluid path beginning internally of said pressure vessel, passing through the vessel, through the fluid output means, continuing externally of the vessel, and extending between the vessel and the input of the jacket. Within the fluid path, but prior to the input of the jacket, there is provided an expansion valve for selectively changing the volume of fluid flowing from the vessel prior to its entry into the jacket. The system yet further includes a compressor having an input in fluid communication with the output of the annular jacket, the compressor itself having an output in fluid communication with the input of the pressure vessel.

A treatment composition and method is provided for removing a plurality of contaminants from a wastewater system in the form of a nonleachable sludge. The treatment composition comprises an alkali or alkaline carbonate; activated montmorrilonite; a catalyst, such as zirconium and polyelectrolyte; one or more flocculants, such as a metal salt and calcium oxide, lime, or calcium hydroxide; and bentonite. Additionally, the treatment composition may contain soda ash, lignite, and activated carbon. The treatment composition is introduced and mixed with the wastewater, which is then filtered to produce a sludge containing the contaminants in a nonleachable form.
