A radar system and a corresponding method for a radar system are described herein. In accordance with one example, the method includes receiving—via a first RF port of a coupler—an antenna signal from an antenna, receiving—with an auxiliary receiver—a representation of the antenna signal via a second RF port of the coupler, and generating—with the auxiliary receiver—an auxiliary base-band signal from the representation of the antenna signal. Based on the auxiliary base-band signal, an external radar interference signal transmitted from an external radar device incident at the antenna is detected.

FMCW radar

A tracker circuit configured to provide a variable supply voltage to a power amplifier (PA) circuit is disclosed. The tracker circuit includes a state machine circuit comprising a plurality of states mapped in accordance with transitions associated with a mapping scheme. In some embodiments, the plurality of states of the state machine circuit identify one or more operational modes associated with the tracker circuit, wherein at least one operational mode comprises one or more voltage levels respectively associated therewith. In some embodiments, the one or more operational modes includes at least two active operational modes. In some embodiments, a transition between the one or more operational modes of the tracker circuit is controlled by a digital selection signal received from a digital communication interface associated therewith.

Control of envelope tracker PMIC

A transmitter is provided. The transmitter includes a bus system including at least two bus lines. Further, the transmitter includes an envelope tracking circuit coupled to the at least two bus lines, and a plurality of power amplifiers. At least a first one of the plurality of power amplifiers, while in active state, is configured to selectively couple its input to the one of the at least two bus lines which is supplied with a supply voltage or a bias signal by the envelope tracking circuit that is based on an envelope of a first baseband signal related to a first radio frequency signal received by the first one of the plurality of power amplifiers for amplification.

Transmitters and methods for operating the same

A transmitter is provided. The transmitter includes an envelope tracking circuit, wherein the envelope tracking circuit includes an envelope circuit configured to generate, based on a baseband signal, an envelope signal indicating a temporal course of the baseband signal's envelope. Further, the envelope tracking circuit includes a bandwidth reduction circuit configured to generate a bandwidth reduced envelope signal based on the envelope signal, and a DC-to-DC converter configured to generate a supply voltage for a power amplifier of the transmitter based on the bandwidth reduced envelope signal. The transmitter additionally includes a predistortion circuit configured to generate a predistorted baseband signal based on the baseband signal and an adjustable predistortion configuration. The predistortion circuit is further configured to adjust the predistortion configuration based on the bandwidth reduced envelope signal.

Systems, methods, and circuitries are provided for generating timing signals with a resonator-based open-loop oscillator circuitry. In one example, a system that generates a timing signal based on a target signal includes a plurality of oscillator units configured to generate a respective plurality of oscillator signals. Each oscillator unit includes a resonator that operates in an open-loop mode to generate a resonator signal having a resonator frequency. The resonator signal is used by core circuitry to generate a respective oscillator signal having a respective oscillator frequency. The resonator frequencies of the resonators in the plurality of oscillator units are different from one another. The system also includes a selector circuitry configured to select one of the plurality of oscillator units based on the target signal and provide a selected oscillator signal generated by the selected oscillator unit as the timing signal.

Resonator-based open-loop timing signal generation

An envelope tracking system for controlling a power amplifier supply voltage includes envelope circuitry and a feed forward digital to analog converter (DAC) circuitry. The envelope circuitry is configured to generate a target envelope signal based on a selected power amplifier supply voltage. The feed forward DAC circuitry includes a voltage source circuitry and a selector circuitry. The voltage source circuitry is configured to generate a plurality of voltages. The selector circuitry is configured to select one of the plurality of voltages based at least on the target envelope signal. The feed forward DAC circuitry is configured to provide the selected voltage to a supply voltage input of a power amplifier that amplifies a radio frequency (RF) transmit signal.

Feed-forward envelope tracking

Systems, methods, and circuitries enable selected signal components to be isolated in a feedback transmit signal that includes multiple signal components. In one example, a signal component cancellation system for a feedback receiver includes a transmit chain configured to transmit a transmit signal having at least two signal components with offset center frequencies. The system includes measurement circuitry configured to measure a received signal that results from feedback of the transmit signal and cancellation circuitry configured to cancel a selected signal component from the transmit signal to generate a cancellation signal. The system further includes subtraction circuitry configured to combine the cancellation signal with the measured received signal to generate a component signal corresponding to a contribution of the selected signal component to the received signal and provide the component signal to the feedback receiver.

A tracker circuit configured to provide a variable supply voltage to a power amplifier (PA) circuit is disclosed. The tracker circuit comprises a predefined state machine circuit comprising a plurality of states mapped in accordance with transitions associated with a predefined mapping scheme. In some embodiments, the plurality of states of the state machine circuit identify one or more operational modes associated with the tracker circuit, wherein the one or more operational modes comprises one or more voltage levels respectively associated therewith. In some embodiments, the one or more operational modes comprises at least two active operational modes. In some embodiments, a transition between the one or more operational modes of the tracker circuit is dictated by a decoding of a digital selection signal received from a digital communication interface associated therewith.

A method of calibrating parameters for a polar transmitter (Polar TX) system includes receiving phase information derived from transmission information in a Polar TX for producing a radio frequency (RF) broadcast signal. An Inphase local oscillator (LO_I) signal and a quadrature phase local oscillator (LO_Q) signal are derived from a combination of a first signal and the phase information using a digital phase lock loop. A feedback receiver (FBR) receives the RF broadcast signal provided by the Polar TX. The LO_I signal and the LO_Q signal are mixed with the RF broadcast signal to obtain mixer output signals. RF path delay and IQ phase imbalance are concurrently determined as a function of the first signal and of the mixer output signals.

A distortion estimation apparatus for estimating distortion includes a feedback element, a nonlinearity determiner, and a distortion simulator. The feedback element provides a feedback signal derived from a distorted output signal of the distorting element. A signal processing quality of the feedback element is lower than an associated signal property of the distorted output signal. The nonlinearity determiner receives the feedback signal and an input signal to the distorting element or a signal derived from the input signal. The nonlinearity determiner determines an estimated transmission characteristic of the distorting element by relating signal properties of the feedback signal and the input signal or the signal derived from the input signal. The distortion simulator estimates the distortion caused by the distorting element based on the input signal or the signal derived from the input signal and the estimated transmission characteristic.

Distortion estimation apparatus and method

A communication system utilizing adaptive envelope tracking includes a transmit path, a feedback receiver, a parameter component and an envelope tracking component. The transmit path is configured to generate a transmit signal. The feedback receiver is configured to generate a feedback signal from the transmit signal. The parameter component is configured to generate linearity parameters from the feedback signal and the baseband signal. The envelope tracking component is configured to generate a supply control signal having time delay adjustments.

Systems and methods utilizing adaptive envelope tracking

In an embodiment, a radio transmitter may be provided. The radio transmitter may include a radio transmitter control loop; and a controller configured in such a way that it operates the radio transmitter control loop as a closed control loop in a first operating mode, and that it operates the radio transmitter control loop as an open control loop in a second operating mode.
