A method is described for testing the viability of a tissue of a patient for an anastomosis using a perfusion measuring device wherein the method may comprise: controlling at least one actuating structure of the perfusion measuring device to rapidly ramp up a force exerted on at least one test area of the tissue selected for an anastomosis, the force exerted on the at least one test area defining a local (systolic) perfusion pressure; and, during the ramp up of the force, the computer receiving a sensor signal from at least one sensor of the perfusion measuring device and a signal from a blood pressure device, the sensor signal being indicative of perfusion of blood through the micro vascularization in the first test area and the blood pressure signal being indicative of a general (systolic) blood pressure of the patient; controlling the first actuating structure to slowly ramp down the force exerted on the first test area, when the sensor signal signals the computer that the perfusion of the blood in the tissue of the first test area has stopped; and, during the ramp down of the force, the computer determining the local perfusion pressure at which the sensor signal indicates a start of perfusion of blood through the micro vascularization, the determined local perfusion pressure defining a reperfusion pressure value of the first test area; and, determining a prediction whether or not the tissue of the at least one test area is viable for an anastomosis on the basis of the local reperfusion pressure value of the at least one test area and the general systolic blood pressure value.

Testing tissue viability for an anastomosis

A suture device is provided comprising an elongate body having a longitudinal axis and opposite proximal and distal ends. The distal end inserts into a wound and the proximal end operates the device. A suture needle connects with the elongate body at or near the distal end and is movable relative to the elongate body in longitudinal direction along a needle trajectory having a suturing space. A spreader connects with the elongate body at or near the distal end and engages tissue to be sutured adjacent the needle trajectory and provides a pulling force on the tissue to pull a portion of the tissue into the suturing space; and/or comprises a spring. The device is configured to urge at least a portion of the suture needle from a first position to a second position along a needle trajectory past a suturing space by a spring action of the spring.

Suture device

The invention relates to a system for predicting the viability of a body tissue in a patient. The system comprises a computing device, and a first pressure measuring device for measuring local perfusion pressure in the body tissue of the patient. This measuring device is connected to the computing device. A second pressure measuring device is provided for measuring the systemic perfusion pressure of the patient, said second pressure measuring device being connected to the computing device. A feedback indicator is connected to the computing device and is adapted to indicate the viability of the tissue calculated by the computing device on the basis of the measured local and systemic perfusion pressures. The invention also includes a method of predicting the viability of the body tissue and to the first pressure measuring device.

System and method for predicting the viability of a body tissue in a patient, and measuring device used therein

A suture device includes a needle operating device movable longitudinally with respect to a housing between at least an insertion position and a needle transfer position. The needle operating device includes an elongate operating element arranged extending from a distal end of the housing to or near a housing proximal end. A needle holder connected at a distal end of the operating element holds two or more needles, with free ends directed in proximal direction. The holder is movable with respect to a protection device between at least a protecting position shielding the free ends, and a non-protecting position for the same. A needle receive device at a distal end of the housing receives the free ends when the operating device is moved to the transfer position. In at least the insertion position the holder and the protection device are spaced longitudinally from the housing to receive a tissue therebetween.
