A method, computer program product, and computing system for defining a storage space having a defined capacity within a storage system. The storage system includes a frontend system and a backend system. A first portion of the storage space is located within the frontend system. A second portion of the storage space is located within the backend system. Usage of a data item stored within the storage space is monitored to identify a usage pattern. The data item is migrated to either the first portion of the storage space or the second portion of the storage space based, at least in part, upon the usage pattern.

System and method for storage management

A method, computer program product, and computing system for processing one or more data chunks on a host server. The one or more data chunks are destined for storage within a portion of a data array coupled to the host server. The one or more data chunks are stored within a host cache system included within the host server. Storage criteria concerning the portion of a data array is reviewed. The storage criteria includes an array bandwidth allotment that defines a maximum bandwidth between the host server and the portion of the data array. The one or more data chunks are written to the portion of the data array based, at least in part, upon the storage criteria.

System and method for cache management

A method, computer program product, and computing system for receiving an indication of a cold cache event within a storage system. The storage system includes a multi-tiered data array including at least a faster data tier and a slower data tier. A data list that identifies at least a portion of the data included within the faster data tier of the multi-tiered data array is obtained from the multi-tiered data array. At least a portion of the data identified within the data list is requested from the multi-tiered data array, thus defining the requested data. The requested data is received from the multi-tiered data array.

An efficient linear technique is used to determine allocation of tiered storage resources among data extents based on system performance and SLOs. Efficiency is achieved by first determining a system performance boundary condition via hardware performance modeling under desirable system performance zones. SLOs are then balanced and SLO achievement improved by exchanging workload activities among SG donors and SG receivers while system performance boundary conditions are maintained. Remaining unutilized capacity is the uniformly distributed to further improve SLO achievement.

A system having a plurality of directors, at least some of which have a local director memory, accesses requested data by determining if requested data is in local director memory of a first one of the directors in response to an access request for the requested data by the first one of the directors. A method, computer program product, and computing system for processing a read request for a piece of content stored within a storage system. If it is determined that the piece of content is not present within a front end cache system of the storage system, requesting the piece of content from a multi-tiered data array, thus defining requested content. The requested content is received from the multi-tiered data array. A tier designator, concerning the requested content, is received that identifies a specific data tier within the multi-tiered data array from which the requested content was obtained.

System and method for caching data

A method, computer program product, and computing system for receiving a write request on a first cache system, wherein the write request identifies new content to be written to a data array. A write request content identifier associated with the new content is compared to a plurality of content identifiers included within a content directory for the first cache system to determine if a matching content identifier exists. Each of the plurality of content identifiers is associated with a piece of previously-written content included within the first cache system. If a matching content identifier is identified, content on the data array is copied from a first location on the data array associated with the matching content identifier to a second location on the data array associated with the write request content identifier.

A method, computer program product, and computing system for monitoring an application being executed on a host to generate a prediction concerning a quantity of data that may be needed in the future. The quantity of data is requested from a data array coupled to the host. The quantity of data is received from the data array. The quantity of data is stored within a frontend cache system included within the host.

System and method for predictive caching

A method, computer program product, and computing system for receiving a Mode Select command concerning a single LUN from each of a plurality of potential hosts. Each Mode Select command defines control information and host identifier information concerning the potential host associated with the Mode Select command. The received Mode Select commands are processed serially and in accordance with the order in which the Mode Select commands were received. The first Mode Select command received is accepted and subsequent Mode Select commands received are rejected, thus defining an accepted Mode Select command and one or more rejected Mode Select commands. The control information and host identifier information included within the accepted Mode Select command are written to a buffer associated with the single LUN. The buffer includes a control field and a GUID field.

A method, computer program product, and computing system for defining a portion of a frontend cache system for use as a data array cache portion. One or more cache slots included within a backend cache system are identified that are going to be overwritten with hot cache data and are currently filled with cold cache data. The cold cache data included within the one or more cache slots included within the backend cache system is written to one or more cache slots included within the data array cache portion.

A method, computer program product, and computing system for receiving a read request on a first cache system, wherein the read request identifies previously-written content included within a data array. If the previously-written content identified in the read request is stored within the first cache system in a compressed format, and the previously-written content identified in the read request is stored within the data array in an uncompressed format; a determination is made as to if it is less computationally expensive to obtain from the data array the previously-written content in an uncompressed format.

The previously-written content identified in the read request may be obtained from the data array. The previously-written content identified in the read request may be compressed, thus generating compressed previously-written content. A compression ratio may be determined for the compressed previously-written content.
