An x-ray imaging system comprises an x-ray emitter for emitting a beam of x-ray photons in a projection pattern, a first photon detector, a second photon detector, and an orbital travel assembly. The first photon detector and second photon detector are configured for sensing a first detection pattern of photons and a second detection pattern of photons, respectively, emitted from the x-ray emitter and passing through a portion of the weld. The orbital travel assembly is configured for supporting the x-ray emitter and the first and second photon detectors The second photon detector is positioned behind the first photon detector in a direction of travel along an orbital weld path, such that the second photon detector is configured to sense the second detection pattern after the first photon sensor detects the first detection pattern, in use.

X-ray imaging system for pipe weld

An x-ray weld inspection apparatus has at least one x-ray source, at least one x-ray detector, a motor arrangement configured to move the at least one x-ray source and the at least one x-ray detector substantially along a weld, and a control device. The control device comprises memory and at least one processing core, configured to control the motor arrangement to move the at least one x-ray source and the at least one x-ray detector during an x-ray weld scan substantially along the direction of the weld. At least one section of the weld is imaged at least twice during a single x-ray scan, producing at least two imaging data sets, respectively. An angle of incidence of x-rays at the at least one section of the weld is different for the imaging data sets.

X-ray weld inspection

A first example azimuthal neutron porosity tool for imaging formation and cement volumes surrounding a borehole is provided, the tool including at least an internal length comprising a sonde section, wherein said sonde section further comprises one sonde-dependent electronics; a slip-ring and motor section; and a plurality of tool logic electronics and PSUs. Methods and means for azimuthal neutron porosity imaging of formation and cement volumes surrounding a borehole

An x-ray based evaluation tool for measurement of the density of material volumes within and surrounding un-cased, single, dual and multiple-casing wellbore environments is provided, the tool including at least an internal length comprising a sonde section, wherein said sonde section further comprises an x-ray source; a radiation shield for radiation measuring detectors; and a plurality of sonde-dependent electronics; wherein the tool uses x-rays to illuminate the formation surrounding a borehole, wherein the geometry, movement, and plurality of output source beams is selected by moveable collimated shielded sleeves, and a plurality of detectors are used to directly measure the density of the cement annuli and any variations in density within. Various electromagnetic radiation detectors, shields, and practical internal configurations and subsystems and methods of use thereof are also provided.

Resolution of detection of an azimuthal distribution of materials in multi-casing wellbore environments

A downhole segmented radiation detector tool measuring formations surrounding a borehole is provided, the tool including at least a plurality of segments capable of detecting radiation, wherein the segments return to the tool after interacting with material surrounding the tool; and radiation shielding configured to allow radiation directly from a radiation source to pass internally through the downhole tool to a reference segment. A method of measuring formations surrounding a borehole is also provided, the method including at least: lowering a downhole tool into a borehole surrounded by a subterranean formation; detecting a first plurality of X-rays or gamma-rays that return to the downhole tool after interacting with materials surrounding the downhole tool using a first segment of an array segmented radiation detector; and configuring associated radiation shielding to allow radiation directly from a radiation source to pass internally through the downhole tool to the reference segment.
