A seal assembly is for sealing between an outer member and an inner member, one of which is rotatable about a central axis. An outer annular case is coupled with the outer member and an inner annular case is disposed within and spaced radially inwardly from the outer case. An annular sealing member is disposed within and coupled with the inner case, the sealing member having a centerline coaxial with the central axis and a sealing lip or lips engaged with the inner member. An annular elastomeric coupler has a first axial end attached to the outer case and a second axial end attached to the inner case. The elastomeric coupler is radially deflectable such that the outer case or inner case is radially displaceable relative to the other one of the two cases while the centerline of the sealing member remains coaxial with the central axis.

A seal assembly includes an outer annular case disposed within and coupled with a rotatable outer member to be angularly displace about a central axis. An annular flexible seal is disposed within and coupled with the case to angularly displace about the central axis when the outer member rotates about the axis. The flexible seal has elastomeric sealing lip(s) engageable with an outer circumferential surface of the shaft or of a sleeve disposed about the shaft. An annular inner rigid seal is disposed within the outer case and has an inner end coupled with the shaft or the sleeve, the flexible seal being radially displaceable with respect to the inner rigid seal. An outer annular rigid seal is disposed about the inner seal and has an inner end sealing against the inner rigid seal. A biasing member biases the outer rigid seal against the inner rigid seal.

A seal assembly configured to be mounted between a rotatable shaft and a housing has a first side and a second side axially spaced from the first side and includes an annular seal support having a first end at the first side of the seal assembly and a second end spaced axially from the first end, at least one seal body configured to form a seal between the shaft and the seal support, the at least one seal body contacting the seal support at a joint, and a resilient annular body mounted between the seal support and the housing. All portions of the resilient annular body are located radially outward of the joint.

A seal assembly for sealing a space between a housing and a rotary shaft includes a generally annular sealing member having a central axis and inner and outer circumferential surfaces extending about the axis, at least a portion of the inner surface providing a sealing surface engageable with the shaft outer surface so as to define a seal interface with opposing axial ends. The sealing surface is configured to direct substances entering the interface toward at least one of the axial ends. Further, an annular biasing member is disposed about the sealing member outer surface and configured to exert a radially-inwardly directed force on the sealing member so as to generate contact pressure within the seal interface. The biasing member is arranged on the sealing member such that at least a portion of the biasing member extends axially in general alignment with at least a portion of the sealing surface.

A seal assembly is for sealing between a housing and a rotary shaft includes an annular sealing member coupled with the housing and having inner and outer circumferential surfaces and a plurality of projections extending radially from the outer surface and spaced circumferentially about a central axis. Each projection has first and second axial ends and the plurality of projections define first and second projections. An annular biasing member is disposed about the sealing member outer surface and exerts an inwardly directed force on the sealing member. The biasing member has first and second ends and is arranged on the sealing member with the biasing member first end contacting the second end of each first projection and the biasing member second end contacting the first end of each second projection. As such, the biasing member extends axially and circumferentially between the first and second projections.

A seal for sealing a space between a shaft and a housing, includes a base member coupled with one of the housing and the shaft and a generally annular, elastomeric sealing member sealingly contactable with the other one of the housing and the shaft. The sealing member is coupled with the base member such that the sealing member is circumferentially strained to reduce friction between the sealing member and the other one of the housing and the shaft. The seal assembly is preferably formed by providing a base member having a generally annular carrier portion and a generally annular, elastomeric sealing member, coupling the sealing member with the annular portion of the base member, and plastically deforming at least a section of the base member carrier portion such that the sealing member is circumferentially strained.

A fluid seal assembly (the assembly) of the present invention is disposed between an outer surface, i.e. engine block or any other part that requires application of the assembly and a rotatable member, such as, for example a shaft, wherein the assembly circumscribes the shaft and lubricated the shaft and the same rotates around the axis. The assembly includes at least three members: a casing unit, a sealing ring unit, and a collar. The assembly eliminates problems associated with prior art designs such as static leakage of oil, clogging up the spirals with carbonized oil that negatively impact lifecycle of the fluid seals.

Fluid seal assembly

A fluid seal assembly including a specialized protective filter unit which is adapted for use with a fluid seal, as well as to the combination of a protective filter unit with an associated seal unit to form a complete seal assembly. The seal provides increased reliability, particularly in those specialized seals wherein high internal pressure and the possibility of particulate contaminants are present.

A fluid seal for installation in a high pressure environment. The seal casing comprises a casing member with an axial flange and a radial flange. The seal includes a rubber lip body and a flex neck section forming a pocket in which a synthetic resinous anti-extrusion insert is trapped. A radial flange of the casing includes on its innermost axial surface a plurality of shallow, spaced apart re-entrant formations, and the anti-extrusion insert in use overlying and covering at least the re-entrant portion of a face of the radial flange.

An accumulator piston for an automatic transmission. The piston comprises two components, the first and second being cup elements welded together with their closed ends in abutting relation. The lower cup includes a curled back portion with a radial flange having an axially extending bi-directional oil seal thereon, and spaced apart recesses in the curled back portion to permit oil to flow therein. The upper cup includes a radial flange of reduced diameter compared to the lower cup flange. The flange also has a lip seal thereon. The piston is spring-loaded and moves up and down in a bore and counterbore in response to fluid flow on either side of the piston to absorb shifting shocks.

A fluid seal assembly for use in high pressure sealing applications. The assembly includes a seal with a rigid casing having a radial casing flange and an elastomeric seal body bonded to the casing. The assembly also includes an annular lip reinforcing ring, made from a low friction material. The ring has a trapezoidal cross-section with an inner cylindrical surface closely spaced from the shaft to be sealed, an outer end face directly contacting the inner end face of the casing flange, and a beveled surface engaging and supporting an air side surface of the elastomertc seal body.
