The apparatus uses the global-positioning-system receiver to perform synchronization of the apparatus. The method may include receiving at least one measurement, wherein the at least one measurement includes real-time, predictive, or historic data. The method may also include determining a holdover duration based on the at least one measurement. The holdover duration corresponds to a length of time where the power of the global-positioning-system receiver or the power of the active antenna is to be turned off. The method may also include deactivating the power of the global-positioning-system receiver or the power of the active antenna for the holdover duration.

Method and apparatus for reducing energy consumption

A method and apparatus may include activating, by a network node, power of a global-positioning-system receiver or power of an active antenna of the global-positioning-system receiver. The apparatus uses the global-positioning-system receiver to perform synchronization of the apparatus. The method may include receiving at least one measurement, wherein the at least one measurement comprises real-time, predictive, or historic data. Various communication systems may benefit from improved signaling. For example, certain communication systems may benefit from improved signaling before network access is revoked through a citizens broadband radio service. A method may include receiving at a network entity from a citizens broadband radio service device a warning message. The warning message may include a drop time after which communication between a network and a user equipment using the citizens broadband radio service will terminate. The method may also include triggering the performing of an action based on the warning message by the network before the drop time.

Method and apparatus for controlling high power transmission

Various communication systems may benefit from improved radio frequency transmissions. For example, communication systems may benefit from the selection of a frequency band based on measurements of a spectrum surrounding the user equipment. A method, in certain embodiments, may include taking measurements by a base station of a spectrum of an environment surrounding a user equipment. The method may also include determining based on the measurements and radio frequency capabilities of the base station at least one desired frequency for transmission by the user equipment. In addition, the method may include sending a request from the base station to a network entity requesting a grant of the at least one desired frequency for transmission by the user equipment.

Frequency selection for broadband transmissions among a shared spectrum

One determines () that a given wireless mobile two-way communications platform is updating its network location (using, for example, an 802.16()-compatible protocol) at a time when there is no downlink traffic to provide to the platform and at a time when the platform should conduct at least one of an authenticator relocation process and an Internet Protocol address renewal process. In response to such determinations, one then automatically provides () to the platform, as part of updating the network location for the platform, an indication (such as, for example, a downlink traffic pending (DTP) flag) that the platform has pending downlink traffic notwithstanding that there is, in fact, no downlink traffic to provide to the wireless mobile two-way communications platform. Method and apparatus to facilitate network processes

A system, wireless device () and method determine that a wireless device () is detecting a triggering event. The triggering event includes detecting a WLAN border cell (), detecting a first signal from an egress portal (), or detecting a degradation in signal quality. A network controller () corresponding communication device () and method for providing a caller identification to a called party comprises a receiver () for receiving a communication and a corresponding first identifier from a communication device (), a controller for selecting a second identifier from a plurality of identifiers, each of the plurality of identifiers corresponding to the communications device (), and a transmitter () coupled to the controller for providing the second identifier as the caller identification to the called party. The communication device () may be used to select the second identifier as well as signal a second communication infrastructure () to block calls before forwarding from the second communication infrastructure () to the first communication infrastructure ().

Method and apparatus to provide a selectable caller identification

A system, computer readable medium, mobile subscriber device and method determine that the device (), operating on a first communications system is detecting a triggering event, which may be the detection of a wireless local area network border cell () or a degradation in signal quality. The device () then initiates a registration sequence with a second wireless communication system if the device () has detected the triggering event, determines the speed and/or displacement of the device (), and conducts any present and subsequent calls via the second wireless communication system if the speed and/or displacement of the device exceeds a predetermined threshold. System to improve handover behavior

A method and apparatus is provided to update information within a first network () via a second network () when communication no longer exists with the first network. During operation the first network is accessed via a PSTN () message that is never answered by the first network. Based on the called number and caller-identification information, the first network updates its system information.

Method and apparatus for updating information within a communication system

A wireless communication unit (), network switch () and corresponding methods facilitate retrieval, routing, and management of on-hold calls (FIG.-FIG.) within a first communication network () when the unit is operating in a second communication network () that is loosely coupled to the first. Method and apparatus for providing a hand-in to a wireless local area network

A method (FIG.) and corresponding wireless communication unit (, FIG.) and mobility manager (, FIG.) for facilitating a handover from one communication network () to another communication network () of an ongoing communication () between a wireless communication unit () and a peer communication unit (). Circular call forwarding loops are prevented for a communications unit () capable of operating in a first communications network () and a second communications network () within a loosely coupled network (), and respectively having a first network number and a second network number, as well as a first network voice mail. A call directed to the first network number () of the communications unit is forwarded to the second network number () of the communications unit when the communications unit is not operating in the first network. A first network voice mail number (P) may be associated with calls so that calls are forwarded directly to the first network voice mail () when received again at the first network (). Alternatively, if a call is subsequently received from the second communications network, and data of the subsequently received call matches data of the initial call, or if call forwarding indicia associated with the forwarded call is also associated with the subsequent call, the subsequent call is then forwarded to the first network voice mail of the communications unit.
