An online system uses a model to determine affinities of users for geographical locations. Using the affinities, which may indicate travel-related preferences of the users, the online system may customize content items to include content captured by client devices of other users of the online system. For example, the online system presents to a particular user a content item including a photo or video of a geographical location captured by a camera of a client device of another user who is connected to the particular user. The model may implement, for example, collaborative filtering or other machine learning techniques to determine commonalities between users' travel affinities. Additionally, the model may determine latent properties or temporal trends of user preferences based on training data including historical actions performed on the online system or social data. The model may also classify different types of geographical locations.

Data processing to predict affinity for geographical locations

A hashing system can use a set of multiple numbers that are co-prime to the size of a hash table to select a probe offset when collisions occur. Selecting a probe offset that is co-prime to the hash table size ensures that each hash table slot is available for any insert operation. Utilizing different co-prime numbers for different keys helps avoid clustering of items inserted into the hash table. When a collision occurs, the hashing system can compute a next index to check by selecting a probe offset that is located at a computed index on a list of numbers that are each co-prime to the number of slots in the hash table. The hashing system can compute the index into the list of numbers by applying a hash function to the data item and calculating a modulus of the result with respect to a count of the co-prime numbers list.

Co-prime hashing

The present invention provides a method and a system for identifying relevant information in a data set. The method involves the identification of nodes of interest in a tree structure. A node of interest is a node that contains information, which is relevant to a pre-defined context. The method further involves the step of iteratively extracting sub-trees from the tree structure and identifying records in the extracted sub-trees. The sub-tree is a hierarchical structure that shows the relationship of each node of interest with its ancestor nodes in the tree structure. Each record is a group of sub-tree nodes and contains at least one node of interest.

Method and system to identify records that relate to a pre-defined context in a data set

A present invention provides a method and a system for extracting information related to a pre-defined context from data sets written in semi-structured or unstructured form, such as a natural language text. The information related to the pre-defined context is stored in an information store in accordance with a pre-defined structural arrangement. Further, the individual data values in the extracted information are assigned weights depending on their relevance to attributes of the predefined context. The operation of assigning weights to the structured information provides a measure for comparing the relevance of a plurality of structurally arranged information to the attributes of the pre-defined context.

Method and system for information extraction

The invention provides a method and system to compare data objects. Each data object is converted into a directed acyclic graph forest, which comprises one or more directed acyclic graphs. The directed acyclic graph forests corresponding to data objects are then compared to calculate a similarity score between the data objects. The similarity score is then used as a measure to determine the extent of similarity between the data objects.
