Techniques for employing augmented reality or virtual reality information are presented. An information management component (IMC) of an augmented reality device (ARD) can monitor and detect user activities and conditions in area in proximity to ARD. Based on user activities and conditions, IMC can determine augmented reality information that can enhance user experience, performance of user activities, or security and safety of user. IMC can present, via an interface component of ARD, the augmented reality information to the user. The augmented reality information can relate to user location; navigation by the user; tasks to be performed by the user; product assembly; maintenance work; system or product design or configuration; remote control of assembly, maintenance, design, or configuration; environmental and/or hazardous conditions; security, identification, and authentication of users; or training the user to perform tasks. IMC can translate information from a language to a different language of the user.

Methods, systems, apparatuses, and techniques for employing augmented reality and virtual reality

Various embodiments of the present technology generally relate to power topology discovery in industrial environments. More specifically, some embodiments relate to automatic power topology discovery for factories based on device data that is already recorded for other purposes. Systems and methods described herein may be used to generate an accurate electrical network topology by collecting power data from power devices that may provide real-time or recorded measurements, detecting power change events, and matching power change signatures over power events for the devices in order to calculate the likelihoods of possible topology assumptions. Power change event data is used to recursively update topology probabilities using the Bayesian formula until a system topology can be produced with satisfactory confidence.

An industrial visualization system generates and delivers virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) presentations of industrial facilities to wearable appliances to facilitate remote or enhanced interaction with automation systems within the facility. VR presentations can comprise three-dimensional (3D) holographic views of a plant facility or a location within a plant facility. The system can selectively render a scaled down view that renders the facility as a 3D scale model, or as a first-person view that renders the facility as a full-scale rendition that simulates the user's presence on the plant floor. Camera icons rendered in the VR presentation can be selected to switch to a live video stream generated by 360-degree cameras within the plant. The system can also render workflow presentations that guide users through the process of correcting detected maintenance issues.

Virtual reality and augmented reality for industrial automation

A power device discovery and visualization system identifies and categorizes smart power and energy devices deployed within an industrial enterprise, and generates interfaces that render customized presentations of a plant's power and energy usage based on data retrieved from the discovered devices. The system also facilitates remote configuration of the discovered smart devices via interaction with a single consolidated interface that affords access to all discovered power and energy devices. The system constructs a device profile for each discovered smart device based on information retrieved from the device, and categorizes each discovered device according to device type (e.g., power meter, IED, VFD, controller, etc.). An industrial device is configured to implement a lightweight file authentication sequence that rapidly verifies the integrity of mobile code supplied to the industrial device. The industrial device generates a file authentication code (FAC), which is stored on the industrial device and only made accessible to users via a local connection to the industrial device. The device-specific file FAC is installed on the program development application used to develop or edit the mobile code to be executed on the industrial device. The development application provides the mobile code to the industrial device together with a hash-based message authentication code (HMAC) generated using a retrieved copy of the FAC. The industrial device only permits execution of the mobile code if the HMAC included with the mobile code matches a locally created HMAC generated by the industrial device based on the mobile code and the device's local copy of the FAC.

For determining a tag based location, a display presents the image. A processor identifies a given equipment tag within the image at a user focus determined at the augmented reality display. The processor further determines a device location based on the given equipment tag.
