A smart harness may comprise a connector configured to selectively plug into and be removable from an Electronic Control Unit ('ECU') of a vehicle, a first On-Board Diagnostics device ('first OBD device'), and a second On-Board Diagnostics device (&#x201c;second OBD device&#x201d;). The smart harness may further comprise at least one transceiver configured to receive and send diagnostic information between the ECU and the first OBD device and the second OBD device. The smart harness may further comprise a processor and a memory having a program communicatively connected to the processor. The processor may be configured to receive a request from at least one of the first and second OBD devices, prioritize the request based on a predefined priority associated with at least one of the first and second OBD devices, record at least a portion of the request as part of a distribution record, send the request to the ECU, receive a response from the ECU, compare the response with the distribution record, and send the response to at least one of the first and second OBD devices based on the distribution record.

Smart harness

A smart dongle device may comprise a connector configured to plug into and be removable from an ECU/diagnostic connector of a vehicle, a transceiver configured to communicatively connect with a remote device, and a processor and a memory having a program communicatively connected to the processor. The processor may be configured to read vehicle information including at least one ECU output from the ECU connector, store the vehicle information, process the vehicle information, and send the vehicle information to the remote device. The processor may further be configured to determine energy levels stored by a vehicle before and after a trip and generate a remaining range and a total energy capacity based in part on the energy levels, wherein the total energy capacity of the vehicle is not directly available through the ECU/diagnostic connector.

Smart dongle for use with telematics devices

A device may receive a request for imaging of a particular location. The device may identify one or more sensors associated with imaging the particular location. The device may select a sensor, of the one or more sensors, for imaging the particular location. The sensor may be associated with an autonomous vehicle. The device may cause the autonomous vehicle to move the sensor to the particular location. The device may receive imaging of the particular location based on causing the autonomous vehicle to move the sensor to the particular location. The device may selectively combine the imaging of the particular location with archived other imaging of the particular location. The device may provide imaging of the particular location to fulfill the request for imaging of the particular location based on selectively combining the imaging of the particular location with archived imaging of the particular location.

Autonomous vehicle cameras used for near real-time imaging

A device may receive a first type of measurement associated with a vehicle and receive a second type of measurement associated with a power source connected to the vehicle. The second type of measurement may be different than the first type of measurement. The device may determine a key-on or a key-off status of the vehicle based on the first type of measurement and the second type of measurement without communicating with a vehicle diagnostic system associated with the vehicle. The key-off status may correspond to an engine of the vehicle being powered off and the key-on status may correspond to the engine of the vehicle being powered on. The device may initiate communications with the vehicle diagnostic system based on determining the key-on status.

Accelerometer and voltage based key-on and key-off detection

Upon initial boot-up, a telematics device receives a PID map in response to a PID map request. The TCU may send multiple PID map requests for different mode and PID combinations over a vehicles communication bus, and then may append each received PID map to the already-received PID maps. The multiple PID maps appended to one another form a composite bit value, or composite PID map. The composite PID map is processed according to a hash algorithm, resulting in a pseudo-VIN. Upon subsequent boot-ups of the TCU, the TCU sends the multiple PID map requests over the vehicle's bus and generates a pseudo VIN following the same steps as it did at initial boot-up. The TCU compares the currently generated pseudo-VIN to the initial pseudo VIN; if it determines a mismatch, it sends a notification to an interested third party that indicates improper usage of the TCU.

An asset's TCU, or a mobile device coupled thereto, receives and stores geographical boundary definitions to a memory. As the TCU's GPS unit generates location information, the processor retrieves the initial-location boundary definition from the memory and compares the current location from the GPS receiver to it according to an algorithm. If the processor determines that the current location of the vehicle has crossed the boundary, the processor generates an alert message, which may be an e-mail, SMS, telephonic, internet, IM, or other electronic message indicating that an asset crossed the boundary, and sends it wirelessly using a transceiver to a central computer for further processing, or directly to another device, according to a notification destination identifier.
