Process for cross-linking polypropylene, propylene copolymers, polyethylene, ethylene/propylene and ethylene/propylene/diene elastomeric copolymers and mixtures of said elastomers with above said thermoplastic polyolefins, which consists in modifying the polymer in the molten state, by the addition of 0.01%-10% by weight of carboxylic acid, possibly in the presence of a generator of radicals and by the subsequent salification with metal ions of the thus grafted carboxylic groups. The polymer products thus obtained display considerably improved characteristics under heating. In particular, there are obtained improved processability and elastic recovery characteristics for thermoplastic rubbers.

A process for promoting the adhesion of polyolefins to metals, glass sheets, cement, asbestos or polar polymers (polyamides, polyesters, ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers, etc.), which consists in modifying the polyolefin by reaction with 0.01%-7% by weight of a compound selected from the group consisting of bis-maleamic acids, bis-fumaramic acids, alkyl esters of said acids in which the alkyl radical has from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, and precursors of said acids or esters, and successively heating at temperature at which the polyolefin is applied to the support to be coated. The main applications concern the lining of pipes or other manufactured metal articles in order to protect them against chemical and atmospheric agents.

A process is disclosed for preparing alpha-thienylacetic acid, alkyl esters and salts thereof by carbonylation of 2-chloromethylthiophene, characterized in that 2-chloromethylthiophene and carbon monoxide are reacted under atmospheric pressure and at a temperature ranging from 0.degree. to 60.degree. C., in an aqueous-alcoholic solution in the presence of a catalyst selected from the class consisting of Co.sub.2 (CO).sub.8, MCo(CO).sub.4 where M is selected from the class consisting of Na and K, and a system comprising a cobalt salt (such as cobaltous chloride), a ferro-manganese alloy and at least one sulphur-containing promoter (such as the alkaline sulphides and thiosulphates), and in the presence of an inorganic base, and the separating the alpha-thienylacetic acid from the resulting salt and/or ester obtained.
