In one embodiment, a mobile node in a wireless network determines a physical location of the mobile node. The mobile node obtains telemetry data. The mobile node makes a comparison between the physical location of the mobile node and a location-based telemetry reporting policy. The mobile node sends, based on the comparison, the telemetry data via the wireless network.

On-location telemetry subscriptions

In one embodiment, a controller for an overhead mesh of access points in an area receives an indication from one or more access points of the overhead mesh that a client device is present in the area. The controller determines movements of the client device within the area. The controller selects a set of access points of the overhead mesh to support communications between the client device and the overhead mesh, based on the movements of the client device determined by the controller. The controller causes the controller, the set of access points to form communication schedules to support communications with the client device that do not require a prior association exchange with the client device.

Ceiling-controlled communication scheduling in an overhead mesh of access points

In one embodiment, a network device along a path in a network receives a schedule that controls when the networking device is to insert telemetry data into data traffic passing through the networking device. The networking device generates the telemetry data for insertion into the data traffic passing through the networking device. The networking device inserts, according to the schedule, the telemetry data into a particular packet of the data traffic passing through the networking device. The networking device sends the particular packet to a next hop along the path in the network.

Method and apparatus for cross-layer, in-band monitoring of tunnels by insertion of telemetry data into a packet

In one embodiment, a device sends data traffic to a gateway of a backhaul mesh network via a first wireless access point of the backhaul mesh network. The device maintains, while associated with the first wireless access point, an association with a second wireless access point of the backhaul mesh network by sending a frame to the first wireless access point that is relayed by the first wireless access point to the second wireless access point. The device makes a determination that additional data traffic should be sent to the gateway of the backhaul mesh network via the second wireless access point. The device sends, based on the determination, the additional data traffic to the gateway of the backhaul mesh network via the second wireless access point.

Maintaining multiple wireless associations via an over-the-wire relay

In one embodiment, a mobile node having a first radio and a second radio applies stateless offline dictionary compression to an uncompressed stream of packets, to form a compressed stream of packets. The first radio of the mobile node communicates with a first access point of a wireless network and the second radio of the mobile node communicates with a second access point of the wireless network. The mobile node selects the first radio to send the uncompressed stream of packets and the second radio to send the compressed stream of packets. The mobile node sends, via the first radio, the uncompressed stream of packets to the first access point over a first wireless path. The mobile node sends, via the second radio, the compressed stream of packets to the second access point over a second wireless path.

Ultra-reliable and low-latency communication using stateless and offline dictionary compression

In one embodiment, an access point of an overhead mesh of access points in an area selects a range of client identifiers. The access point sends, via a beam cone transmitted in a substantially downward direction towards a floor of the area, a trigger signal that includes the range of client identifiers and prompts client devices having identifiers in that range to send best effort transmissions towards the overhead mesh. The access point detects a collision between the best effort transmissions of the client devices. The access point adjusts the range of client identifiers so as to avoid future collisions between the best effort transmissions of the client devices.

Coordinating best effort traffic to an associationless, overhead mesh of access points

In one embodiment, a controller identifies access points forming an overhead mesh of access points in an area, each access point comprising one or more directional transmitters each configured to transmit a beam cone in a substantially downward direction towards a floor of the area. The controller determines coverage areas on the floor of the area for the one or more directional transmitters of the access points in the overhead mesh. The controller generates, based on the coverage areas, alternating communication schedules for the access points such that a client device at any given location on the floor of the area is within range of a plurality of receiving access points in the overhead mesh and at least one transmitting access point in the overhead mesh at a certain point in time. The controller sends the communication schedules to the access points.

Scheduling time-diced uplinks and downlinks in a dense overhead mesh of access points

In one embodiment, a gateway to a Layer-3 network forms a first Layer-2 tunnel between the gateway and a first wireless access point (AP) that communicates wirelessly with a first mobile node of a mobile system (MS) via a first wireless connection. The gateway generates a mapping that associates an onboard device of the MS with the first AP and an identifier for the MS, based on traffic conveyed via the first Layer-2 tunnel and associated with the onboard device, the traffic comprising a header that indicates the identifier for the MS. The gateway receives, from a second AP, an indication that the MS is roaming from the first wireless connection to a second wireless connection, the indication including the identifier for the MS. The gateway updates the mapping to associate the onboard device of the MS with a second AP, based on the indication that the MS is roaming.

Wireless backhauling system using a mono-tunnel for fast-moving mobile domains

In one embodiment, a mobile system scans wireless channels for any upcoming access points using a dedicated monitor radio of the mobile system. The mobile system identifies a particular wireless channel in use by an upcoming access point. The mobile system notifies a second radio of the mobile system of the particular wireless channel. The mobile system performs a handoff between a current access point and the upcoming access point in part by switching the second radio of the mobile system to the particular wireless channel of the upcoming access point.

Throughput and wireless channel interference mitigation for mobile systems

In one embodiment, a device registers with a controller for a mesh of overhead access points. The device receives, from the controller, a communication schedule for the device. The device generates a message to be sent to the mesh of overhead access points. The device transmits, according to the communication schedule, the message as a beam cone directed substantially upward relative to the device towards the mesh of overhead access points. The message is received and relayed by one or more particular access points in the mesh without the device previously performing a wireless association exchange with those one or more particular access points.

Associationless wireless communications using an overhead mesh

In one embodiment, a controller identifies access points forming an overhead mesh of access points in an area, each access point comprising one or more directional transmitters each configured to transmit a beam cone in a substantially downward direction towards a floor of the area. The controller assigns the access points to access point groups. The controller generates communication schedules for the access points such that each access point in an access point group is on a common channel and only one of neighboring directional transmitters of access points in that group is able to transmit at any given time. The controller sends the communication schedules to the access points forming the overhead mesh of access points in the area.

Semi-distant time-sliced antennas in an associationless overhead mesh of access points

In one embodiment, a gateway label edge router (G-LER) receives a packet destined for a mobile domain that comprises a vehicle label edge router. The G-LER identifies, from among a plurality of primary domains, a particular primary domain that currently has a label switched connection with the mobile domain. The label switched connection connects the vehicle label edge router of the mobile domain and a cluster label edge router of the particular primary domain. The G-LER sends the packet to the cluster label edge router of the particular primary domain for transmission to the vehicle label edge router via the label switched connection. The G-LER tracks when the vehicle label edge router of the mobile domain establishes a new label switched connection with a second cluster label edge router of a different primary domain in the plurality of primary domains than that of the particular primary domain.

Method and system for mobility management in communication networks

In one embodiment, a client device enters an area having an overhead mesh of access points, each access point comprising one or more directional transmitters each configured to transmit a beam cone in a substantially downward direction towards a floor of the area. The client device obtains an area-dependent communication schedule for the overhead mesh that is exclusive or partially-exclusive to the client device for the area. The client device sends, during an arbitrary timeslot of the area-dependent communication schedule, a pull request. The client device receives, from a particular access point in the overhead mesh, a packet in response to the pull request.

Client-controlled communication scheduling with an overhead mesh of access points

In one embodiment, a device obtains location data indicative of a location of a mobile system relative to a base station of a wireless network. The device predicts, based on the location data, a drop in received signal strength indicator as the mobile system approaches the base station. The device determines, based on the drop in received signal strength indicator or throughput that will occur as the mobile system approaches the base station. The device prevents the mobile system from communicating with the base station during the ban.
