Devices are provided for remote environmental and atmospheric testing that can be deployed without personnel entering a potentially dangerous area. The device can detect and automatically analyze biological and chemical agents and then automatically report if any of these agents are present without the intervention of public safety or military personnel. During sample collection and analysis, the device deploys a sample-collecting pad, tape, or filter which is then retracted with captured samples (liquid or solid) obtained from either surfaces or as aerosols from the air. The captured samples may be retracted into an enclosed vessel which will then extract the sample off of the pad, tape, or filter into a liquid carrier, and this liquid carrier is delivered to a downstream process for further analysis. The steps between sample collection and analysis are completely automated and include solvent washes, extractions, centrifugations, or other steps that are not normally readily amenable to totally-hands-off automation.

A system and method for on-demand production of custom indicator assays including a computing device for receiving a user specified analyte for which the assay will test, a database accessible via the computing device and containing indicator response data for a variety of analytes and potential interferents, and a printer operably connected to the computing device for printing an optimized combination of indicators onto a substrate based on the indicator response data of the database for a user specified analyte and any user specified potential interferents. The method includes receiving in a user interface at least one user specified analyte; querying the database to determine an optimized combination of indicators to test for the at least one user specified analyte; and printing from a printer the optimized combination of indicators onto a substrate.

System and method for on demand production of custom indicator assays

A device and method for collecting, analyzing, and identifying chemical and biological samples in solid or liquid form is disclosed. The analysis compares the color change of Colorimetric Sensor Arrays (CSAs) over time with images for known materials/compounds contained in a library. The device can be used as a handheld or standalone device and integrates the sampling and detecting functions of the prior art into a single device that analyzes and identifies the sample without destroying it. The inventive volatile organic compound (VOC) technology device is also unique in that it relies on a comparison to a proprietary compound library that is supported by lab data. This compound library identifies the unique dye signature combinations that provide very accurate classification of a wide variety of chemical and biological agents.

Sampling and detection kit for chemical and biological materials

A sampling apparatus and method for collecting chemical and biological samples is disclosed and claimed. A surface sampling apparatus is designed to simplify taking successive environmental samples using one hand. In addition, the sampling bag used with the apparatus serves as both safety barrier and transport bag and is prepared with multiple sampling surfaces and in wet or dry formats.
