A system is provided for positional based automatic gain control to adjust one or more dynamically configured combined microphone array in a shared 3D space. The system includes a combined microphone array including one or more of individual microphones and/or microphone arrays and a system processor communicating with the combined microphone array. The system processor is configured to obtain predetermined locations of the microphones throughout the shared 3D space, obtain predetermined coverage zone dimensions based on the locations of the microphones, populate the coverage zone dimensions with virtual microphones, identify locations of sound sources in the shared 3D space based on the virtual microphones, compute positional based gain control (PBGC) parameter values for virtual microphones based on the locations of the virtual microphones, and combine microphone signals into desired channel audio signals by applying the PBGC parameters to adjust microphones to control positional based microphone gains based on the location information of the sound sources.

System for dynamically deriving and using positional based gain output parameters across one or more microphone element locations

An audio conference system for automatically forming a single combined physical microphone array aperture across associated and/or disassociated ad-hoc microphone elements in a shared 3D space is provided. The audio conference system includes a plurality of microphone/speaker units, each including at least one microphone and/or at least one speaker and a system processor communicating with the microphone/speaker units. The system processor instructs the microphone/speaker units to transmit unique calibration signals sequentially or simultaneously and to calculate time difference of arrival (TDOA) between the microphone/speaker units. A physical array structure of the microphone/speaker units is obtained based on TDOA between the microphone/speaker units, and a consolidated target coverage zone common to the microphone/speaker units is generated based on the physical array structure.

System for dynamically determining the location of and calibration of spatially placed transducers for the purpose of forming a single physical microphone array

A system performs residual echo suppression on a microphone signal that receives, e.g., voice commands, and that is exposed to echo from multiple speakers. An example is a smartphone that receives voice commands while the smartphone is playing music through stereo speakers. The system estimates residual echo level in different ways, and determines which estimate to use. The technique responds well to the difficult to handle scenario of a spatially quiescent image suddenly transitioning to a spatially rich image. Even in the face of such difficult scenarios, the system detects and removes residual echo from the microphone signal, instead of allowing the undesired residual echo to pass through.

Spatial quiescence protection for multi-channel acoustic echo cancellation

During playing of a streamed audio while engaging in a voice communication session, a communication device may be operable to generate a background audio during an echo cancellation operation for the voice communication session, using known information associated with the streamed audio. The streamed audio may comprise audio content that is received from one or more external sources and/or locally generated within the communication device. The known information associated with the streamed audio may comprise an echo replica corresponding to an echo associated with the streamed audio and/or a modified version of the streamed audio. In instances when a residual echo suppression is operational during the echo cancellation operation, the communication device may be operable to suppress a residual echo based on a signal level of the echo replica corresponding to the echo associated with the streamed audio and/or a signal level of the modified version of the streamed audio.
