Techniques for transmitting vehicle information messages among a plurality of vehicles are disclosed. In an aspect, a transceiver of a vehicle transmits a first set of vehicle information messages over a wireless medium at a first periodic rate, the first set of vehicle information messages including information related to the vehicle. One or more sensors of the vehicle detect an event related to operation of the vehicle. A processor of the vehicle generates a second set of vehicle information messages each including an event flag and information about the event, the event flag indicating that the second set of vehicle information messages is reporting the event. The transceiver of the vehicle transmits a first vehicle safety message of the second set of vehicle information messages over the wireless medium as soon as the first vehicle safety message is generated.

A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product are provided. The apparatus may be a UE configured to receive from a base station access parameters corresponding to respective types of access controls for different types of data services, receive a TFT established at a core network based on mapping a packet filter to access control information for each type of access control, receive a data packet from an application, match the data packet to the packet filter to determine access control information corresponding to the data packet, and establish communication for the data packet based on access parameters for the determined access control information. Alternatively, the apparatus may be policy server configured to receive a request for traffic control regarding data being communicated to an application server, determine a policy update for the application server based on the request, and transmit the policy update to a UE.

Packet filter based access control

Application category-level access control for random access and traffic ingress using a joint control signal. The joint control signal may include application category access controls as well as an indication of applicability, which may indicate the connection states for which the access controls apply. The indication of applicability may also indicate the cause of access control. The indication of applicability may apply to all application category access controls, groups of application category access controls, or there may be separate indication of applicability for each application category access control. Resources may be conserved by using a single set of application category access controls for UEs in multiple connection states. The joint access controls may be transmitted to the UEs using signals such as SIBs.

A method and apparatus facilitating priority indication and queuing for an access terminal is provided. The method may comprise receiving an access request from an access terminal (AT), determining that the AT is a priority AT and that no resources are available in response to the access request, transmitting an access deny message to the priority AT, queuing the access request until a resource becomes available, and transmitting a resource available message to the priority AT upon a determination that a resource has become available.

Apparatus and method for facilitating priority indication and queuing for an access terminal

An access point is configured based on signals received from one or more access points on a forward link. Such an access point may comprise, for example, a relatively small coverage area access point and/or an access point that is deployed in an ad-hoc manner. In some aspects, an access point may determine its location based on signals received from several neighboring macro access points. In some aspects, the timing of an access point may be synchronized to timing indicated by signals that are received from one or more neighboring access points.

System and method are provided for redirecting a communication device between a macro network and a femtocell network using a service redirection message (SRDM). In an embodiment, the communication device registers with the network which then determines the subscription status of the communication device to a femtocell network. If the subscription is confirmed, using the SRDM the system redirects the communication device to a communication frequency used by the femtocell network. Upon receipt of the SRDM, the communication devices tunes to a communication frequency specified in the SRDM. The system may segregate the CDMA channels used by the macro network, one set containing channels exclusive to the macro network and the other containing channel or channels used by both the macro network and the femtocell network. In this way, the communication device is prevented from entering a frequency re-hashing loop.

Identification of an access point to which an access terminal is to be handed-off involves, in some aspects, identifying one access point of a set of access points that may have been detected by an access terminal. For example, an access terminal may receive a signal having an identified characteristic (e.g., a particular phase offset) from an access point. Each access point of a set of access points associated with the identified characteristic may be directed to attempt to decode a signal from the access terminal. The access point of the candidate set to use for the handoff operation may then be determined based on the signal received from the access terminal, if any, by each of the candidate access points.

In one example, a communications device is equipped to indicate a quality control indicator (QCI) for each of a plurality of applications that communicate with a RAN over a bearer, receive information regarding modification of the bearer or additional bearers based on the QCIs, and modify the bearer or additional bearers according to the information to achieve a desired QoE for at least one of the plurality of applications. In another example, a RAN is equipped to receive a QCI for each of a plurality of applications related to a bearer from a UE, and modify the bearer or adding additional bearers for communicating with the UE based on the QCI for each of the plurality of applications to improve QoE at the UE.

Apparatus and method for user equipment assisted congestion control

The disclosure is directed to a mobile communication device that measures characteristics or attributes of a first communications network that vary according to physical location within that first communications network to create a fingerprint, or signature, of a location within the first communications network. When the fingerprint of the current location of the mobile device is created it can be compared to a known fingerprint associated with a second communication network to determine the mobile device's proximity to the second communications network. For example, the first communications network may be a CDMA wide area wireless communication network and the second communications network may be a 802.11 wireless LAN.

Wireless communication systems with femto nodes

Ambiguity (e.g., confusion) associated with access point identifiers may be resolved by querying candidate target access points and/or by using historical records indicative of one or more access points that the access point has previously accessed. For example, messages may be sent to access points that are assigned the same identifier to cause the access points to monitor for a signal from an access terminal that received the identifier from a target access point. The target access point may then be identified based on any responses that indicate that a signal was received from the access terminal. A mapping may be maintained for that access terminal that maps the identifier to that access point so that the mapping may be used to resolve any future confusion associated with the use of that identifier by that access terminal.

These sample a wireless spectrum portion that includes macro cell carrier and at least one other target carrier where non-macro cells are deployed, using a receive chain, a signal processor, and a controller. The wireless spectrum portion is processed to resolve portions corresponding to macro cell carrier and at least one additional carrier where target non-macro cells are deployed. The processed signal is searched for at least one target non-macro cell pilot and the macro carrier portion is used for a paging monitoring operation.
