A food storage container includes a lid with a vent hole, and a removable cover removably secured to the lid to cover the vent hole. The cover has an evacuation hole. The food storage container further includes a one-way air valve disposed between the vent hole and evacuation hole. When the cover is secured to the lid, the one-way air valve inhibits air flow into the container through the vent hole, and when the cover is not secured to the lid, the one-way air valve allows air flow into the container.

A bell-shaped shield for use on a household appliance, particularly a hand blender or a hand mixer has an inner wall that forms a space which is accessible from below via an opening through which food is supplied and discharged. A blade-like processing tool inside the space is adapted to be set in rotation by a drive shaft so that the food is caught, comminuted and/or mixed by said tool. The surface of the inner wall has on its circumference individual outwardly extending wall sections for the formation of clearance spaces, said wall sections serving primarily for the diversion, comminution and enhanced mixing of food, while the clearance spaces are used for receiving and discharging the food. This configuration allows for a more intensive and thorough mixing and comminution of food in a minimum of time.

The invention is directed to a processing device for stirring or reducing foods, particularly a handheld blender, with a motor driven tool shaft extending in a housing part of the housing of the processing device and having a work performing element secured to the shaft's output end. The housing part becomes a protective shield in the area of the output end of the tool shaft, said shield encompassing the work performing element in a radial direction at least in part and terminating in an opening edge at its lower open end. To ensure that the processing tool is not only adequately protected in an initial position by the shield but also well suited to reduce large pieces of solid foods, means are provided for enabling a relative axial displacement of the work performing element and the opening edge of the shield.

Processing device for stirring or reducing foods, particularly a handheld blender

The invention is directed to a lid (2) for closing a processing container (1). Provided in the processing container (1) is a spigot (4) for receiving a rotary processing tool (5) for comminuting food materials. The processing tool (5) has at its free end close to the lid (2) a first coupling member (18) adapted to be coupled to a second coupling member (17) of a driven shaft (10) when the lid (2) is placed on the processing container (1) for closing. The driven shaft (10) extends outwardly through a bore (9) in the lid (2) and has at its outer free end a third coupling member (27). The third coupling member (27) is adapted to be coupled to a fourth coupling member (33) of a drive shaft (31) of an electrically powered drive mechanism, in particular a hand-held mixer or immersion blender. An annular space (23) is formed between the outer diameter of the section (21) of the driven shaft (10) extending through the bore (9) and the bore (9).

A processing tool for mixing or comminuting food materials includes a working shaft having an input end and an output end, a shaft housing which carries the input end and is adapted for coupling to a drive motor of a kitchen appliance, a flared bell-shaped housing attached to the shaft housing and positioned near the output end of the working shaft, and a bearing sleeve which carries the output end of the working shaft. A cover plate separates an inner space defined by the bell-shaped housing from an inner space defined by the shaft housing. The cover plate has a bore through which the output end of the shaft extends outwardly. A work performing element is secured to the output end of the shaft. A seal structure includes an elastic sealing part supported by the shaft housing and a circumferential sealing ring formed integrally with the elastic sealing part. The bearing sleeve is inserted into the elastic sealing part, and the elastic sealing part is arranged between an outer circumferential area of the cover plate and the bell-shaped housing. The elastic sealing part and the sealing ring operate to center the bearing sleeve elastically.

In an electrically operated hand mixer (10) including an attachment (1), the latter is provided with a bowl (2) closable by a lid (9). The hand mixer has at least two first (90) and second (77) drive shafts adapted for detachable coupling with various processing tools (76), such as whisk attachments or kneading blades. One of the drive shafts (90) can be non-rotatably coupled with an output shaft (16), extending upwardly through the lid (9), when the hand mixer (10) is placed on the lid (9) of the attachment (1). The output shaft (16) is connected with a drivable blade (21, 22) in the interior of the bowl (2) for chopping foods. The non-rotatable connection is established by engagement of a first toothing (71) provided in the drive shaft (90) and a mating second toothing (70) provided on the output shaft (16). The drive shaft and/or output shaft (90, 16), according to the present invention, is axially displaceable in opposition to the force of a spring (67) so that, during installation, the hand mixer (10) will move into abutment on the lid (9) even in the absence of an engagement between the first (71) and second (70) toothings. This permits ease of coupling of the hand mixer (10) to the attachment (1) because automatic coupling engagement of the drive and output shafts (90, 16) takes place as soon as the motor starts to operate.
