A body structure for a printer comprises a front cover and a rear cover and is capable of accommodating a platen roller a typing device and advance means for advancing and feeding individual or continuous forms. A hinge element fixed to a pillar of the body structure permits pivotal movement of the covers and such that the front cover can rotate from a first operating position in which it is parallel to and supported on the body structure to a second operating position in which it is substantially turned over onto the rear cover to permit access to the platen roller and the typing device. In addition the hinge element permits the rear cover to rotate from a first operating position in which it is substantially parallel to and supported on the body structure to a second operating position in which it is substantially inclined with respect to the body structure. The forms can be supported and guided by the outside surface of the rear cover in both operating positions. In a third operating position thereof the rear cover is capable of being turned over into the front cover to permit access to the advance means. The body structure also comprises a transparent intermediate cover member pivotally mounted on the front cover to protect and silence the typing and printing zone and a transparent rear cover member pivotally mounted on the intermediate cover to protect the forms in both the operating positions of the rear cover. The intermediate member has positioning means to hold it in an inclined position on the rear cover in both its operating positions, and guide means for guiding the forms. The rear member has spacer means to space it from the rear cover.

Guide and cover arrangement for printers

A re-inking device is fitted to a cartridge for an inked ribbon. The cartridge comprises a magazine housing the ribbon which is of the closed loop type and which is disposed in randomly distributed loops, and a pair of rollers for the unidirectional feed movement of the ribbon. The re-inking device comprises an ink reservoir or inker, an ink metering wick and a spring. The pair of rollers comprises two toothed wheels and the inker is disposed in a housing adjacent to the wheels. The ink metering wick comprises a bundle of capillary fibres and is disposed between the inker and the wheel. The spring presses on the metering wick to hold the fibres at one end in constant contact with the outside surface of the wheel. The crests of the teeth of the wheels are of a rounded section and the inker is of a parallelepipedic shape, is of polyester fibres with external co-extrusion and contains an amount of ink such as to occupy only half the volume of the inker. The metering wick is cylindrical and is of a longitudinal section of rhomboidal shape. The bunch of capillary filaments is formed by fibres of elasticized nylon impregnated with phenol resin. The ends of the capillary filaments co-operate with the rounded crests of the teeth of the wheel and the spring acts on the side surface of the capillary filaments to hold the ends of the filaments and the teeth of the wheel in constant contact.

Cartridge for an inked ribbon with a re-inking device

The machine comprises a tined wheel for building the banknotes, a conveyor for presenting them to the customer through a slot, and a printer for printing the receipt. This is cut off by a blade and is guided by a system of belts, in such manner as to be fed into the wheel. The receipt is thus bundled together with the banknotes and is presented to the customer with them through the slot, avoiding the risk of the customer forgetting to collect his receipt before a vandal proof shutter closes. The printer can print a journal strip in addition to the receipt.
